The Shield Card

The Shield Card The Shield card Her vision was of a saluting police officer, a shield, highlighted by the rays of the sun and a cityscape.

It all started with a poem that Carmel's Geri Munnick wrote on January 18th, 2011 for her neighbor, Dan Kaplan, Past President of the New York State Shields and NYPD. The next day Kaplan requested putting it on the New York State Shield's website-nyshields.org

On May 6, 2011, at the 21st Annual Law Enforcement Memorial Breakfast, Munnick was recognized by Dan Kaplan for the poem titled 'The Shiel

d.'

Two weeks after writing the poem Munnick had a vision of putting the poem on a card, similar to a prayer card given out at funeral homes. Dan Kaplan added a personal touch by permitting Munnick to use his own shield for the card. With the help of a local Carmel graphic artist for Eileen Fisher, Munnick befriended and hired Hillary Mager to piece together a work of art. Munnick's intention for the Shield card is to have it be carried by all police officers around the globe, create future graphics and to donate a percentage of the proceeds to the New York State Shields. The Shield Card-is a Keepsake/Souvenir for families and friends of fallen and all law enforcement officers. It is a relic/remembrance for Annual Memorial Law Enforcement events and for funeral homes and religious supply stores.
