๐ŸšจJapan just gave the BOJ more reason to keep raising interest rates.

Japan's business confidence hit an 8-year high, with large manufacturers' sentiment rising to +24 from +22. This shows the economy is holding up despite the Middle East conflict and higher borrowing costs.

Big firms also plan to raise capital spending by 11.3% this fiscal year. Companies now expect inflation at 2.6% in 3 years and 2.5% in 5 years, both above the BOJ's 2% target.

The Bank of Japan's latest meeting summary also showed policymakers focused on inflation risks from higher oil prices, a weaker yen, rising import costs and strong AI-related demand.

Most importantly, one BOJ opinion said that if inflation begins moving above target, the bank may need to accelerate the pace of rate hikes.

Japan's economy is staying strong while inflation remains high, raising the pressure on the BOJ to deliver further rate hikes.

Breaking: Moscow announces new "special military operatin" in Europe: "it will be very short"

The Russian state news agency RIA Novosti published an article naming Lithuania as a possible target for a new Russian military operation. The author, RuBaltic.ru editor-in-chief Alexander Nosovich, asserts that Russia could dispense with ground troops and use nuclear-armed missiles. The article, titled "Russia Awaits Another Strategic Military War. It Will Be Very Short," appeared after the Lithuanian parliament's decision to lift the ban on nuclear weapons deployment. In the article, Nosovich compared Lithuania to Ukraine and asserted that, in the event of a conflict, Russia is capable of striking with lightning speed and achieving its goals in a very short period of time. The article was published amid reports from Danish and Czech intelligence agencies about a possible limited Russian attack on a NATO country in the coming months. Previously, Western media also reported that Moscow may attempt to test the Alliance's readiness to defend the Baltic states.
The publication claims that in the event of a direct conflict with Russia, the Kaliningrad region could be blockaded, and its military infrastructure could become a target for attacks.
Against this backdrop, in September, Polish Foreign Minister Sikorski declared NATO's significant military superiority over Russia. In response , Nikolai Patrushev and then Sergei Lavrov threatened Warsaw with swift defeat in the event of war.
Russian dictator Putin's aide, Nikolai Patrushev, threatened Poland with the use of "the entire arsenal" of Russian forces and resources if Warsaw enters into a direct military conflict with Moscow. According to him, in such a case, Polish statehood could allegedly cease to exist within days. Patrushev stated this in an interview with Russian propaganda media, commenting on recent remarks by Polish Foreign Minister Radosล‚aw Sikorski about the military capabilities of European countries. "If Poland enters into military action against Russia, our country will use the entire arsenal of forces and means at its disposal, and Polish statehood will cease to exist within two or three days," the Russian official stated. Sergey Lavrov threatened Europe with a
"completely different" and "very short" war if European countries decide to attack Russia. "l hope that this warning is heard in European capitals and in those structures that are now trying to pass themselves off as a united Europe.
We've said repeatedly that we have no intention of attacking Europe; we have no interest in doing so. But if Europe, which talks daily about preparing for war against Russia, attacks the Russian Federation, it will be a completely different war, and it will be very short," Lavrov said.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ทJUST IN: Oil flowing out of the Strait of Hormuz has doubled in less than a month to about 13,000,000 barrels a day.

That's back to July's brief peak. The US military is now guiding tankers through the strait in broad daylight, according to Fortune.

It comes after Trump rejected Iran's 7-day ceasefire offer to reopen the strait, saying Iran is "losing so badly" and that the deal "would not be acceptable."

US officials reportedly believe time is now on their side. Fortune reports the naval blockade is "crushing Iran's economy."

WTI crude fell about 8% this week to $92.41, while Brent fell more than 2% on Friday.

Still, flows remain well below the roughly 20 million barrels a day seen before the war, and analysts estimate each barrel now costs an extra $30 to $40 to get out.

The CIA has reportedly warned Spain, France and Italy about a possible Russian drone attack, according to Spanish newspaper El Mundo, though the CIA has not publicly confirmed the report.

The reported assessment says Russia could potentially launch drones from commercial vessels in international waters in the Mediterranean, using civilian ships as mobile launch platforms.

The drone reportedly identified in the warning is the Gerbera, which has a stated range of around 600 km and can carry a small explosive payload.

Potential targets mentioned in reports include coastal infrastructure such as ports, energy facilities and communications sites across the 3 Mediterranean countries.

The reported warning comes as European governments face broader concerns over Russian drone and hybrid threats, but there is currently no independent confirmation of an operational attack plan.

592 drones in a single night. That's how many Russia's Defence Ministry says its air defences shot down as Ukraine sent waves of drones deep into Russian territory.

Here's what Russian officials reported on Friday:

๐Ÿ”ด Two people dead. A civilian was killed and another wounded when a drone struck a truck in the Belgorod region near the Ukrainian border. In the Perm region, home to a major oil refinery, Governor Dmitry Makhonin said one man died during what he called a massive attack.

๐Ÿ”ด A refinery knocked offline. In the southern Rostov region, Governor Yuri Slyusar said around 50 drones were downed overnight, but the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery was still damaged and forced to temporarily halt operations. No casualties were reported there.

๐Ÿ”ด A passenger train hit. Russia's state railway operator said a Moscow-to-Tolyatti train had its electric locomotive and first carriage damaged by what it called "external interference" on a stretch of track in the Samara region. The driver was injured and rail traffic on the line was suspended.

๐Ÿ”ด Eight injured in Ulyanovsk, including a child, according to Governor Alexei Russkikh, who said both industrial and civilian infrastructure was damaged. The region is home to a major electronics plant.

๐Ÿ”ด Voronezh under fire. Governor Alexander Gusev said 88 drones were destroyed over the regional capital and at least six districts. Four people were injured, with homes, vehicles and industrial sites damaged.

Reuters said it could not independently verify the reports, and Ukraine had not commented at the time of publication.

The targets tell the story: fuel, rail and industry, all far behind the front line.
