The MA Probate Court has announced new Guardianship and Conservatorship documents that can be eFiled.

"The Senate’s version of the estate tax reform...aligns with the House’s proposal to double the threshold at which the estate tax kicks in, from $1 million to $2 million, and seeks to eliminate the so-called cliff effect, by allowing a uniform credit of $99,600.

The House took a slightly different approach to try to eliminate the cliff effect, instead only taxing the value of an estate that exceeds $2 million, and not the entire estate as law currently requires."

The MA land court examiner stated that remotely notarized documents may not be accepted in the MA registry of deeds if they were signed after March 31, 2023. Something to be careful about, as there is still a MA remote notary statute, and many other states allow it as well.

The Boston Bar Association Trusts & Estates Section has a nice write up on the MA Governor's $3 million estate tax proposal and how it will affect MA residents with out of state property and out of state residents with MA real estate. The current MA estate taxes are for estates with $1 million or more.
