Camp Wood, Texas (elevation 1460 ft.), situated in beautiful Nueces Canyon in the western Texas-Hill-Country of southwest Texas, has a population of 506 people as of 2026. It is a small, incorporated town with a big heart. Its history is extensive and fascinating. Camp Wood has motels, campgrounds, AirBnB rentals, businesses, and friendly church congregations eager to welcome visitors. Camp Wood is on the Three Twisted Sisters route which includes scenic Ranch Roads 335, 336, and 337. Caprock Mountain (elev. 2324 ft.) and distinctive Crown Mountain (elev. 2041 ft.) stand as sentinels above Camp Wood on the eastern side of the Canyon.

Freshly taken Monday of this week: Ranch-to-Market Road 335 wraps tightly around Turnpike Mountain (elev. 1996 ft.) and beside the beautiful Nueces River a couple miles north of Vance, Texas. Perkins Mountain (elev. 2012 ft.) appears in the background above the end of the highway. The Edwards-Real County boundary follows the center of the Nueces River which is the stream that comes into the picture from the right. An old channel of the Nueces River flows into the picture from the bottom of photo. This perspective of this photo is looking downstream and towards the southwest.
