Need assistance with a legal name change in New Jersey? Volunteer UP is hosting a free virtual Name Change Clinic on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Volunteer attorneys will help eligible participants file applications for a Judgment of Name Change through the New Jersey Courts. Fee waivers are available for qualifying individuals. Advance registration is required and appointments are limited. See the flyer below for details.

Please join us in recognizing Ann Madden, our May Volunteer of the Month!

Ann serves as our Board President, and her dedication and compassion continue to make a tremendous impact at Volunteer UP. She helped lead another highly successful “Party with a Purpose,” bringing in greater attendance, sponsorships, awareness, and support for our mission.

Ann also recently stepped in to assist a client living with dementia in a small claims matter that resulted in a dismissal for the client. The client’s daughter shared: “Thank you Ann for all your hard work. I appreciate you so much!”

We’re proud to introduce Matt Grubman, who has joined Volunteer UP Legal Clinic as our new Housing Justice Attorney.

Matt will be on the front lines of eviction prevention—providing legal advice at weekly landlord-tenant sessions in Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem County Superior Courts, and offering same-day representation and support to tenants facing eviction.

A graduate of Temple Law School (2011), Matt brings years of legal experience from both Philadelphia and New Jersey. In addition to his private practice work, he has handled a wide range of pro bono cases, including landlord-tenant matters, trusts and estates, debt collection, and name changes.

Matt also has a long-standing commitment to community service, having worked in the nonprofit sector and served as an AmeriCorps member before his legal career. He continues that service today as a Board Member of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, where he is Co-Chair of the Grants Committee.

We’re thrilled that Matt is bringing his passion for service to full-time legal aid. Join us in welcoming him to the Volunteer UP team!

Earlier this month, our amazing staff took 2nd place among 50 nominees in the Social Innovation Awards Contest in the Advocacy, Policy & Systems Change category.
