URGENT! Please take two minutes today to call your legislators.

‼️The Vermont Legislature is making critical decisions that will affect families across our state. This morning, we need lawmakers to hear clearly from Vermonters that immigrant communities deserve real protection, real accountability, and real access to legal help.

Find your legislators: legislature.vermont.gov/people
Call the State House: 802-828-2228

When you call, identify your first name and town, and leave this message:

“Hi, I’m calling to urge my legislators [Senator NAME] and [Representative NAME] to protect Vermont immigrant families by please: Fighting ICE surveillance through S.71; Restoring federal accountability in S.208; and Restoring Vermont Legal Aid helpline funding in H.951 so immigrant families can stay healthy, housed, and safe. Reminder! 🚨‼️ Need immigration legal help in Vermont?

Submit one request at vaapvt.org/help and VAAP will try to connect you with trusted nonprofit partners. You can also get help completing the form at immigrant-serving nonprofits. Capacity is limited. Review our free multilingual self-help resources‍ or look for a ‍private attorney in the mean time.

Is ICE activity happening right now? Immigration lawyers are not trained in rapid response. We focus on court work that can stop unlawful detention or deportation, which requires focused computer work and takes time.

For Rapid Response help in the moment of an emergency — that you are personally witnessing, and that is currently unfolding — instead call Migrant Justice at 802-881-7229 and make your legal help request at vaapvt.org/help after.

From each and every one of our team members to each and every one of you, thank you for joining VAAP in the work of rightsizing Vermont’s immigration legal infrastructure just in time. As reported by :

“’We’ve been bringing habeas petitions when we feel there’s capacity and the law is on our side,’ said Martin Diaz, the group’s executive director. ‘And it’s been working. It’s amazing.’

“As Trump’s crackdown escalated in Vermont, the group also has helped to channel outrage over his policies into a wildly successful fundraising effort, netting more than half a million dollars for a legal defense fund for immigrants in Vermont, $200,000 of which so far has been awarded to its own office

“The project now has 10 staff members, plus a team of volunteer attorneys. The past few months have been a whirlwind, as the team has sought to expand and train its staff while putting out daily fires.

“Outside of the work in detention facilities, the lawyers continue to help people apply for asylum, obtain work permits and make progress toward permanent residency. Several work specifically with unaccompanied minors and youths who were abandoned or abused by their parents.

“’We’re taking this moment to set up the legal infrastructure we’ve wanted for a decade,’ Martin Diaz said. ‘Now it’s a priority, but we were underprepared to meet this moment.’”

All of this, because of your support. Thank you.

Jill Martin Diaz to : Governor Scott’s silence fuels immigration chaos and harms Vermonters. President Trump knows many of these policies won’t survive judicial review. That’s not error — it’s strategy. In 2026, Vermont needs systemic solutions for systemic problems. Governor Scott can lead proactive myth-busting, coordinated legal referral pathways, operational DOC legal access agreements and protocols to ensure effective—not chaotic—first response. Lawmakers can advance VAAP’s legislative recommendations. Agencies can document barriers through the Act 29 Study—rather than relying on media coverage alone.

We, the people, can demand accountability from state leaders. There are no rights without remedies, and no remedies in gridlock. We can and will take care of ourselves and each other, Vermont. Remember: there is no justice. There is just us.

Solo estamos nosotros.
