Our Annual Spring Party and CLE are going to be held on May 17, 2023, at Big Ditch. Esteemed Inn of Court Member Hon. Frank Caruso will be presenting our final CLE of the year from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m., with the party to follow.

The Charles S. Desmond Inn of Court’s next CLE will be on Wednesday, February 8 at 12:15 in the Ceremonial Court Room at 92 Franklin Street. This will be our first offering of a CLE credit in the new area of Cybersecurity, Privacy, and Data Protection, of which one credit hour will be required starting this year.

The topic is “Defending Your Firm, Your Clients & Yourself against Cyber Threats”, and is being presented by Kyle Cavalieri, president of Avalon Cyber, along with Inn of Court Board Member Michael Perley, Esq.

Our End of Year Summer Party and CLE will be on May 18 at Big Ditch. We have the event room for our celebration from 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Inn of Court Member Craig Bucki will be presenting on “The New York Freedom of Information Law” - always a great topic – from
4:30 – 5:30, with drinks and food recommencing immediately afterwards. Please come celebrate the end of the Inns of Court Year with us! The event is free for all paid Inn of Court members.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, April 13, at 12:15 p.m. at 92 Franklin Street, Part 5 (Justice Marshall’s Courtroom). It is going to be our first return to in person meetings in two years, so come at 12:15 to catch up with the other members before the program starts at 12:30. Lunch will be provided!!

Litigation attorney Scott Philbin, a shareholder with Gross Shuman P.C., will be presenting: "Best Practices for Engaging New Clients".
In the post-COVID world, many clients are seeking a different experience with their attorney. From remote meetings, to fee structures and even clients wanting to communicate with their attorney via social media and text messaging, a lot has changed. Scott will discuss five primary areas where attorneys need to be more cognizant than ever of how they interact with clients, both to ensure a successful relationship and to protect the attorney and the firm in the event the attorney/client relationship hits a bump in the road.

The topic is Alternative Dispute Resolution in the 8th Judicial District, presented by our own Bridget O’Connell, the Regional ADR Coordinator for District 5, 6, 7, 8, & COC. She will be discussing the History of the Presumptive ADR Initiative, the current landscape of ADR in NYS and the 8th JD, anticipated impact on practice, ADR tips, and resources!

Please RSVP to Inn of Court Secretary Liz Midgley by Tuesday, November 16, at noon if you will attend the virtual meeting. Education Chair Sarah Rera will send you a link prior to the meeting.
