Sometimes I miss the “paper” days. Most of the patent attorneys in Buffalo would gather a few minutes before midnight at the U.S. Post Office on Dick Road in Cheektowaga, NY, to beat the midnight filing deadline. I think that Post Office may have been open 24/7 back then. Now we just push a button and file the applications electronically. On the other hand, my brother, Michael, and a team of RIT students wrote the first electronic filing software for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. That was pretty cool. One of the first patent applications filed electronically with the USPTO was an application I wrote, filed from a computer on my desk, using software developed by my brother and his team. (I still miss the paper!)
