Cooke Doyle would not be Cooke Doyle without our Office Manager Nadine Halliwell. Nadine is the first call for our team members and clients with all of those critical non-legal issues that keep us going. From billing questions and payroll issues to emergency calls for help when we've lost a password or broken a laptop, Nadine keeps the Cooke Doyle machine firing on all cylinders, is quick with an encouraging word, and even manages to supply our kitchen with her famous baked goods. It's unanimous - EVERYONE FU***NG LOVES NADINE!

Nadine grew up in the Buffalo Area, and graduated from Grand Island High School. She went on to receive an Associates degree in Business Administration from Erie Community College.

A fun fact about Nadine is that she is an avid knitter and crocheter. She has been knitting since the age of 9.

On Nadine’s bucket list is a trip to Ireland. Additionally, she is an “Irish Dance Mom,” and loves traveling for feiseanna, Irish dance competitions, for her daughter.

She loves The Beatles and her favorite quote is from In My Life “There are places I'll remember All my life though some have changed. Some forever not for better. Some have gone and some remain. All these places have their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living. In my life, I've loved them all.”

Nadine has been working with Jesse Cooke since 2008, and says she likes working at the firm because of the amazing people and the work-life balance.

Rodger is one of the founding members of our firm. We have come to appreciate Rodger’s sense of humor. He is always willing to jump in and help anyone, including all the senior dogs he rescues with his wonderful wife, Holly. A little about Rodger here below:

I have spent my 30+ year career building an extensive record of success in the areas of commercial litigation, employment law, toxic tort and the defense of personal injury actions for both insurers and self-insureds. I am proud to be an experienced trial attorney who has successfully litigated hundreds of cases, including trials and appeals.

My pre-legal career experience was as an automobile and motorcycle service manager, motorcycle racer, and licensed motorcycle inspector, and my continued interest in automobiles and motorcycles helps me to effectively litigate complex and catastrophic motor vehicle accident cases. I have also handled several hundred employment cases from each case’s inception through trial and appeal. This work includes employment contract litigation such as non-compete/non-solicitation agreements, employment discrimination on the basis of gender, race, religion, and disability, and wage claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the New York Wage Theft Prevention Act. I also represent employees and employers in drafting employment contracts, negotiating severance agreements, and litigating breach of employment contract cases. I have litigated employment cases in state and federal court as well as the New York State Division of Human Rights and the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

I am the proud father of two daughters and my interests include travel and photography.

Another valued member of our firm is Brian MacDonald. Brian recently joined our firm in December of 2024. We have worked with him previously and are excited to have him back working with us again. Below is information about Brian's career and outside hobbies.

Over the course of my 25+ year career, I have tried close to 100 civil litigation cases to verdict with a high level of success. In recent years, I have also put my trial advocacy skills to work defending criminal cases in courts throughout New York state.

My decades of defense work have led to sharpened skills in negotiation, motion practice, trial practice, appeals, legal research and writing, insurance coverage, and all areas of personal injury litigation. As a career litigator, I am proven and well equipped in the areas of motor vehicle liability, premises liability, contract law, general liability, and first-party property claims.

In my free time, enjoy the outdoors, riding my motorcycle, and spending time with my two sons.

Another valued member of Cooke Doyle is our Law Clerk, Emily Applegate. Emily joined our firm last year before attending law school. Emily was accepted and now attends UB Law School and is in the depth of her first year. She joins us on her breaks and continues to save emails for us during her school year so she can still be a part of our team and continue to attend our holiday parties, even though we would still invite her without that. Emily has a fun sense of humor, and she has been a great addition to our firm. We are lucky to have her!

Originally from Hamburg, Emily grew up in the Frontier School District. Emily has a great appreciation for the outdoors and can often be found walking, running and hiking in her free time. Impressively, she has hiked all of the Saranac-Six Mountains in the Adirondacks!

Despite her love of the mountains, Emily enjoys living in Buffalo for its football team. Go Bills! Emily’s all-time favorite book is Little Women, and she adores the movie as well. Her favorite thing about working at Cooke Doyle is the tight knit team and family-oriented environment.

Emily graduated with a degree in English from SUNY Oswego and will be entering law school in 2024.

We want to put another spotlight on our paralegal, Caity O’Connor. She has been a dedicated employee since she was hired threw months after firm opened.

Caity attended Kenmore West High School where her interest in law began to develop through mock trial and internships. She then went on to get a BA in English and History and an Associates in Early Childhood Education, before eventually going for Paralegal Studies. Beginning her career teaching, she was then hired at the District Attorney’s Office as a paralegal before beginning here with Cooke Doyle.

Fun facts about Caity include her ability to recite William Blake poems and her love of rugby, true crime, and traditional Irish music!

Caity loves Buffalo for the sense of community the city offers. She says it lives up to its nickname of “The City of Good Neighbors.” Additionally, Caity is a huge Bills fan.

Caity’s favorite thing about Cooke Doyle is the supportive environment that encourages a work-life balance, and that everyone can feel valued here.

We want to give a shoutout to our Litigation Paralegal Kelly Metz-Givens. She is a hardworking, wonderful addition Cooke Doyle. We are lucky to have her as a part of our team.

Kelly grew up in West Seneca and graduated from West Seneca East Senior High School in 1998. After that she went to SUNY Brockport for her 1st year of college before transferring to UB. Kelly was offered a full-time paralegal position after interning at a local law firm, so she finished her degree online.

Since then, she’s been a paralegal for 25 years, mainly working in the residential real estate area of law. Kelly has also worked in the fields of personal injury, matrimonial, bankruptcy, wills and estates, traffic and small claims court, and family law.

Interestingly, Kelly and her husband started a homemade dog food business called “PupCups,” making homemade food and treats for her 3 dogs and customers.

Kelly likes working at Cooke Doyle because of the team. She appreciates the vast knowledge and welcoming personalities that everyone has to offer. Everyone can feel like an important asset here, and Cooke Doyle allows for a healthy work/family balance.
