Rural Texas counties are getting new public defender offices!

The Texas Indigent Defense Commission approved over $7 million for new or expanded programs to strengthen public defense across the state. The new funding will:

✅ Establish the Wharton-Matagorda Regional Public Defense Office
✅ Create a tri-county public defender office serving Maverick, Dimmit, and Zavala Counties
✅ Expand the Far West Texas Regional Public Defender Office into Val Verde and Terrell Counties
✅ Add juvenile, appellate, and mental health public defender services in Brazos County

These investments will help address the attorney shortage crisis and ensure that everyone in Texas, no matter their income, has access to quality legal representation.
