Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

The Fifth Judicial Circuit of Florida is deeply saddened to announce the passing of the Honorable Richard A. Howard on January 29, 2026, at age 72.
Judge Howard served the Circuit with dedication for more than two decades following his appointment to the bench in 2000.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

All Fifth Judicial Circuit Courts will re-open on Monday, October 14, 2024.
This includes the courts in Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion, and Sumter Counties.

Due to Hurricane Milton, the Tampa Division of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida will close on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, October 9, 10, and 11, 2024. All hearings scheduled for October 9 - 11 in the Tampa division are canceled and will be rescheduled.

The Orlando and Jacksonville Divisions will close on Wednesday and Thursday, October 9 and 10, 2024. All hearings scheduled for October 9 and 10 in the Orlando and Jacksonville divisions are canceled and will be rescheduled.

Any additional court closures will be announced as they become official.

For information on creditors' meetings, please contact the trustee assigned to the case.

🌀Due to the expected impact of Hurricane Milton:

Our Citrus and Hernando offices will be closed Tuesday, October 8 through Thursday, October 10.

Our Lake, Sumter and Marion offices will close at 3pm on Tuesday, October 8 and will be closed on Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10.

The status of court and office closures Friday, October 11 will be determined later this week. Please check back for updates.
