Mission: The mission of Justice in Motion is to protect migrant rights across borders by developing and supporting a cross-border network of advocates and resources. Justice in Motion is dedicated to protecting migrants rights across borders. In our global economy, this is a critical issue that must be addressed to ensure justice for migrants. The cross border challenges to achieving justice allow

companies whose products and services we use every day to exploit migrant workers and get away with it. Families are denied safety for their children. Human traffickers are able to profit at the expense of those seeking a better life. Migrants, families, businesses, and everyone who plays by the rules is compromised as a result. We currently operate legal, educational, and policy initiatives in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Central America. Through a unique network of on-the- ground human rights partners, Justice in Motion makes sure that wherever migrants go, their rights will follow.

From the pecan shellers of San Antonio to the agricultural workers of California and Immokalee, Florida, migrant and Latine leadership has radically reshaped the American labor movement. 🛠️✊

These movements remind us that workers’ rights do not stop at the border. Migrant workers contribute to communities and economies across the U.S., yet they face exploitation, unsafe conditions, wage theft, and other abuses – often with significant barriers to seeking justice.

This Labor Day, we honor the migrant workers and organizers who have fought for greater protections and helped advance worker rights. When these farmworkers and organizers took to the streets, they brought deeply rooted traditions of community organizing, mutual aid , and relentless resilience, recognizing that every worker deserves to be treated with dignity, wherever their work takes them.

El contexto actual para los derechos de los immigrantes es sumamente duro, y cada día nos enfrenta a noticias de detenciones constantes, una vigilancia agresiva y mayor temor en nuestras comunidades. Pero en momentos así, la esperanza es el motor que nos sostiene.

In Norfolk, VA, a U.S. citizen was wrongfully detained by federal immigration agents, despite producing proof of her citizenship. Brittany’s ID, social security card, and fingerprints were not enough for ICE.

As Brittany was roughly handled and forced into an ICE vehicle, her 4-year-old sister watched in tears. The young child was left all alone at a grocery store waiting until family could arrive.

Cases like Brittany's make the erosion of our constitutional rights clear – and how that erosion endangers the lives of everyone, regardless of citizenship status.

Imagine a child facing an immigration courtroom alone – scared, traumatized, navigating a complex system that they’re too young to understand, maybe even in a language that’s not their own – all without an attorney.

For thousands of children, that scenario has become an immediate threat as millions in federal legal funds are being withheld from service providers, despite a recent court order mandating that they pay.

Legal representation is not optional – it’s fundamental to due process and a dire necessity for unaccompanied children seeking safety and stability. Without representation they face unjust deportation, prolonged time away from their families, and drastically reduced chances of a positive outcome.

Here are three actions you can take today (links in comments):

✅ Contribute to reputable funds raising money for children’s legal representation

Follow the story of Orgullosa* as she navigates returning to her home in the U.S. after being unlawfully deported with her children for nine months. Like thousands of families, Orgullosa and her children were separated at the U.S.-Mexico border under the first Trump administration’s zero tolerance policy. Advocates fought for the government to take accountability and action – and these families now have certain legal protections from deportation as a result.

For families like Orgullosa’s, winning the battle of being allowed back into the U.S. doesn’t undo the immense harms created by the detention and deportation system. Their lives are upended, they face the financial burden of having to start over, and most importantly, children like Orgullosa’s are severely re-traumatized – the second deportations opening wounds that never fully healed, shattering any sense of safety and making them relive the worst moments of their lives all over again.

“...according to the Brookings Institute, ICE has detained more than 400,000 immigrants, including families like Orgullosa’s, with legal protections since Trump retook office in 2025.” The ACLU is “calling for these previously separated families to be put on a path towards some sort of permanent status, so that they can truly build their lives in the U.S. without any fear that they could be again separated and deported to countries where they don't have permanent roots anymore.” We agree: These families deserve their chance at safety, dignity, and stability.
