Important Update for Asylum Applicants in the U.S
A new rule announced on April 28, 2026, could seriously impact people with pending asylum cases.
If USCIS sends you a notice for the annual asylum application fee, you’ll have only 30 days to pay it
If you don’t pay on time:
Your asylum application can be rejected
Your work permit may be denied or terminated immediately
If you have no other legal status, you could face removal proceedings
Enforcement may begin as early as May 29, 2026
What you should do:
Keep your **address updated** with USCIS
Pay the fee immediately** after receiving the notice
If you have a lawyer, **contact them ASAP** (they might have received the notice)
This is not just about a fee — it can affect your asylum case, work authorization, and ability to stay in the U.S.
