Five days of trial, seven counts in the indictment, and one beautiful three word verdict.

I couldn’t be happier for my innocent client who has been waiting nearly 15 months for justice.

Today is a good day.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

A beautiful tribute Sam, and a stark reminder of the human cost of war.

R.I.P. Sgt. Hodge. We will
Never forget your sacrifice.

Today is National limerick day, and we are celebrating with a humorous limerick to continue . A limerick typically has three long lines and two short lines and is often humorous.

Below is a limerick about a defense lawyer sleeping through trial. It wasn’t us! One of our mottos is that we will stay awake for your trial.

A Criminal Defense? (Limerick)
This three-verse limerick is based on a real Texas criminal case: “Lawyer admits napping at trial, but rates his performance an 8 or a 9.”

A Criminal Defense? (Limerick)
By Madeleine Begun Kane

A man got a sentence immense,😦
Then complained of a sleepy defense:😴
“My defense lawyer 👩‍💼slept
Which makes him inept,
So a do-over trial makes sense.”

His lawyer contested the claim:
“I am not for that sentence to blame.🚫
I slept just a while😴
And I ran a good trial.
Even dozing, I’m right on my game.”🏅

On this statement the lawyer won’t budge,🤷‍♂️
And he even is running for judge.🏃
I suppose that he thinks
When he’s caught forty winks,💤
His court clerk will just give him a nudge.

In this unusual time, we want to add some brief levity, so we're asking for your favorite jokes.

Bonus points for dad jokes like the one below.

My wife asked me if I was going to get a hair cut this week. I said "No, I'm going to cut them all!"

Once you have picked yourself up off the floor from rolling in laughter, or once your eyes have come back from rolling into the back of your head, share your favorite joke.

Today we are talking about work routines🧑‍💻, and what you do to achieve your goals🏅 for the day.

At our firm, we fight injustices in the legal system and defend the Constitution. So, it is critical that we work effectively to provide the best 🥇representation. Let’s explore how we work.

So, you’ve started the night 🌙 before and got good sleep 🛌💤; you’ve gotten up ⏰ early, meditated, 🧘‍♂️ spoken🗣 your affirmation, visualized your blessings 🧠 for gratitude, 🙌 exercised,🏃🏊🏋️ did your reading, 📚and wrote down your goals for the day✏️📓; now it’s time to get things done.

First, we work on our big 3️⃣ goals for the day using the pomodoro method which involves setting a timer ⏲ and working for at least that amount of time on the task. (Read more here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomodoro_Technique). This work could be client work 🗃marketing 👨🏻‍💻, or improving our firm standard operating procedures ✏️📋.

Second, we continue using pomodoros until we hit another activity such as a morning court 👨‍⚖️ appearance or we reach our call 📞and email 📧time. We only send emails 📧and return calls 📞during these times so we don’t let this shallow work interrupt our deep thinking💆‍♂️ work. This significantly increases 📈 productivity.

Next, we review our curated social media feed for interesting stories 📰to share with our audience, or for writing topics for our new blog we are rolling out.

For lunch, 🥗we embrace the “Never Eat Alone” framework and try to schedule lunches with referral lawyers 👩‍💼and other professional 🧑‍💻👨‍⚕️🕵🏻‍♂️connections.

After lunch we will do another deep work session using the Pomodoro ⏲ method. Next, we reach our client meeting block and hold intake meetings, or meetings with existing clients to discuss their case.

Next, We have one last email 📧and call return period before the close of business so we can end communications 📵for the day (except for incoming client calls).

At the end of the workday, we process any sticky notes or papers 📑✉️on the desk, review the day, and tentatively plan for the next day📆.

Of course, like everyone else, surprises 🎉 come up and we are not perfect 🚫💯at keeping to this work routine, but we have found that when we do, it is extremely effective at helping us achieve our goals of fighting injustices 🤼‍♂️in our legal system and protecting the rights of the accused.

What things do you plan in your day to help get things done? What tips or tricks would you suggest we consider?

We received some great tips on morning routines 🌞🧘‍♂️🏋️‍♀️🧎📓📚yesterday, but as a wise woman 🧝‍♀️once told me, “the most important part of your morning 🌞routine, is your nightly routine.” So, today we’ll be focusing on nighttime 🌙 routines.

While mornings are about getting ramped up and moving forward🏃‍♀️ the nighttime routine is about winding down for sleep 🛌.

Below are five 5️⃣ tactics that have worked well for us, but want to hear from you about your keys to a successful nightly routine.

Some of the things we’ve learned by experimenting with different approaches are:

1) Put electronic devices 📱💻📺 to bed at least one hour before you try to put yourself to bed 🛌. Not only does the material coming from the screen 🖥keep your mind engaged 🧑‍💻and working when it should be winding down, but the blue light 🟦from certain electronics sends a bio-chemical signal to your brain not to go to sleep. 💤

2) Stop eating 🍔🍕🍖at least one hour before bed. This is because your body heats up 🌋during digestion, but has to cool down 🗻before you can fall asleep. This also can be beneficial for health 🏥and weight loss goals 🏅as digestion is very slow during these times leading more calories consumed late at night to be stored as fat.

3) Prepare your environment by switching from overhead bright lights 💡to soft dimmer lighting 🕯and cooling 🌬the room by at least 3 degrees. Light is a bio-chemical signal 🧬to your body to remain awake😳, so the less light around sleep time the better. The temperature decrease ❄️is important because your blood has to be pulled from your primary organs in order to slow your heart ♥️down enough to sleep. A cooler environment helps this process.

4) Practice gratitude 🧎‍♂️for all the blessings in your day. Many people struggle with a racing 🏎🏍🚄mind at the end of the night 🌛when they want to sleep, but we have found a gratitude exercise of bringing your blessings to mind and merely saying thank you, calms the mind for sleep.

5) Read fiction for the sleepies. 📚While the personal development and business books are important tools 🔧⚒for growth, reading such books at night can cause your mind to race 🏎as to how you will apply the principals you are reading. Reading fiction can calm the racing mind 💆‍♂️by engrossing you in the story, and soon your eye lids start to drop signaling you are ready for sleep.

Today, we are asking for help with our morning 🌞routines.

In the book The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod, he recommends that you wake about an hour earlier ⏰than any obligation you have that day, and that you perform the SAVERS routine.

S-Silence - you start with silent prayer 🙏, meditatio🧘, or just sitting in silence. We love ❤️the mindfulness meditation app Headspace.

A-Affirmation - speak 🗣into the world the good 👍things you have or want to happen. It can be simple like “I have all that I need to succeed in all that I dedicate myself to achieving.” There are many affirmations online to help inspire you.

V-Visualization - used by professional athletes 🏋️‍♀️⛹️🏌️, olympians ⛷🤼🥇, and other high level performers, you simply close your eyes and play a movie 📽of what you want to happen in your mind’s eye. Alternatively, we use this as a gratitude exercise and bring all of our loved ones and family members into our mind’s eye 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦separately and think of how grateful we are to have them in our lives.

E - Exercise - get up and get moving! 🏃get stronger! 🏋️‍♀️ Not only does this get the blood flowing, but it avoids the day 🌞getting away from you 🌙without having done any physical exercise leading to poor health😷, poor mental clarity🤯, and often guilt and shame 😓for not achieving one of your most important daily goals.

R- Reading - the most successful people in the world find time 🕥to read every day. Stimulate your mind and learn new skills by reading books 📚everyday.

S- Scribing - really this is writing✏️, but SAVERW is not a good acronym. You can write in a journal📝, or like us write in your planner📒 the top 3️⃣
Things you intend to accomplish today.

What is your morning routine? 🌞If you don’t have one, what elements would you like to put in place to start your day well? Can you help us add something to our morning routine?

Today, we want to learn more about a Monday routine that gets you moving in a positive direction 📈for the week.

Studies have shown that just writing ✒️📖out your goals increases the likelihood that you will complete them by over 4️⃣0️⃣%!!! I try to take advantage of this and write down 🖋📖my big three 3️⃣ (top-3 priorities) for the week and big three 3️⃣for the day to focus my efforts on Monday.

Next, I place all my appointments from my calendar 🗓for the week in my planner 📒to see where my time blocks allow time for different tasks.

Finally, I slot in my Big three 3️⃣ for Monday, and Big three 3️⃣for the week in time blocks where I am likely to be able to make good progress or complete the tasks.

I’m not always consistent, but I find that when I do this simple task, the effect on my week is extremely positive 💯.

What are your Monday routines for a successful week? Whether you’re doing them now, or have done them in the past, please share what works for you!

Today, We want to learn more about the different jobs 👮👷🕵🏻‍♂️👨🏻‍🌾👩‍🏫 you’ve had in your life.

My first real job was doing demolition work 👷🏻‍♂️ in high school. I was hired to tear all the plaster, lath, and insulation out of a 🏚house down to the studs for a total rebuild 🏡 as part of a program turning former drug dens into low cost housing for teachers 👩‍🏫👨🏾‍🏫of inner-city schools.

We kept finding needles 💉💉💉everywhere because this place had been used as a he**in house, and I remember my friend Joe and I constantly joking that we just got stuck by one of the needles 💉🩹.

On maybe day 3 Joe calls to me and says that a needle 💉stuck him and I 🤪chuckled at the now-old-joke, but when I turned I saw a 💉needle sticking in his 💪arm after falling out of the ceiling as we were tearing it down.

We both nearly 😵🤢🤮fainted, but luckily all tests 🔬🧪🧬🌡came back negative and he was fine🙂.

Suffice to say that I’m happy that my current gig has very low risk of 💉needles falling out of the ceiling.
