Have you been hacked? Yes, almost certainly you have been hacked. As you may have heard, Equifax, one of the three largest credit monitoring bureaus in the U.S., announced a data breach at the company that affected at least 143 million U.S. consumers. If history has taught us anything, I suspect that the numbers are higher than those reported in the press release. The breach included personal information such as social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and credit card numbers.

To further protect yourself from future incidents, you should:

1. Use a password manager, like LastPass.

2. Freeze your credit files.

4. Monitor your bank and credit cards.
