Koskoff Attorney Margaret Donovan and her colleague Eugene Fidell are using the fast-changing conflict as a case study in military justice, international law, and the law of armed conflict for Yale Law students. Teaching a course where the situation shifts daily is a challenge, Donovan shared, but it’s important for students to understand this topic.

“It’s especially important at this moment to educate people on what the rule of law actually means and why it’s important,” Donovan said. “What I’d like students to see in this very painful and real-world way is that there’s a reason why we have international treaties. There’s a reason why the United States holds itself to a higher standard internationally in terms of how we conduct warfare.”

They discussed how cases are built from the ground up, the responsibility of earning our clients’ trust, and the privilege of helping amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard.

Sharing our experience with the next generation of the plaintiffs bar is an important part of our work but also rewarding. Said Fitzpatrick about her fourth year visiting the class, "I still leave inspired every time."

An 85-year-old Groton woman was awarded $15.1 million by a jury after a medical procedure at Yale-New Haven Hospital left her blind.

A New Haven jury awarded Lioudmila Pyleva $15.1 million today, finding Yale New Haven Hospital negligent after a neurosurgeon allowed toxic antiseptic solution to drip and stay in her only seeing eye during brain surgery.

“My mother is my hero, and the strongest person I have ever known,” said Evgenia Neff, Pyleva’s daughter and conservator. “This verdict is a vindication not only of what my mother has lost, but the full value of her amazing life. I am grateful to her lawyers and the jury for seeing my mother as a full human being. I hope this verdict means no one else will ever go through what my mom did.”

We’re closer to justice in the case of Ashworth v. Branford, in which Ashworth was killed by former boyfriend and prominent Branford dentist Michael Mollow in 2022.

Following an argument before the Connecticut Supreme Court by Attorney Reilly, the court established for the first time in Connecticut that a mental health provider who knows a patient poses a substantial risk of imminent harm to an identifiable victim has a duty to exercise reasonable care to protect that person.

It is a ruling that will help other families in the state seeking to sue healthcare providers on similar grounds. We're proud to have played a role in this decision and its broader implications as we continue our fight to protect victims and CT families.
