More students are coming forward with disturbing allegations against former principal Cedric Gerald. We remain committed to advocating for the students who say they were abused, harassed, and failed by the very adults entrusted with their safety at Westview Middle School. As I told St. Louis Post-Dispatch, we applaud the courage of these young people for coming forward to hold the principal, teacher, and school district accountable.

In April, a former student of the Ferguson Florissant School District won a $1.75 million settlement after suing Cedric Gerald for harassment.

No one should have to live in fear of intimate images being shared without their consent.

The Take It Down Act is now fully in effect. Survivors of revenge p**n and AI-generated deepfake abuse have new federal protections, including the ability to request the removal of qualifying nonconsensual intimate images from covered platforms.

Children are not commodities, and the modeling industry cannot be allowed to sacrifice their safety in pursuit of profit. The allegations raised in our newly filed lawsuit on behalf of Tina Davis are deeply disturbing and reflect the devastating consequences that can occur when adults and institutions fail to protect vulnerable children. Every child deserves dignity, protection, and the freedom to pursue their dreams without exploitation.

A child should never have to sacrifice their safety for an opportunity within the modeling industry!

Kayla’s Survivors has filed a lawsuit on behalf of former child model Tina Davis, who alleges she was exploited and sexually assaulted while working as an underage model after being placed with Ford Models and TalentPlus in the 1990s.

The lawsuit alleges minors were exposed to unsafe environments, pressured to comply with directions by being told their careers depended on it, sexualized for professional visibility, and failed by an industry that should have protected them.

No child deserves to be treated as expendable in pursuit of profit. This is why we are pursuing accountability for Tina and every survivor failed by systems that placed opportunity over protection.

Grooming can happen anywhere: online, in unfamiliar places, and even locations we frequent. Parents, guardians, schools, religious institutions, sports organizations, and communities all have a responsibility to create spaces where children feel protected and empowered to report inappropriate behavior without fear or shame.

Abuse can have lasting effects on every part of a survivor’s life, from mental health and relationships to sleep, emotional well-being, and physical health. Trauma is not something people simply “get over.” Survivors deserve understanding, support, and access to resources that help them heal.

In Missouri, survivors of childhood sexual abuse face strict deadlines, they have until age 31 to file a claim against an abuser, but only until age 26 to file against an institution. But trauma doesn’t follow a timeline. When most survivors delay disclosure, the law must reflect that reality, not limit the chance to seek justice.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that healing from trauma doesn’t end when the abuse does. Survivors often carry invisible wounds long after the harm occurred. Check on the survivors in your life. Compassion, patience, and support can make a difference.
