We are honored to welcome Bill Boyce into the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall & Wall of Fame as a 2026 Legend. Bill will be honored alongside this year’s class of inductees at the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall & Wall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Billings Hotel & Convention Center.
Bill D. Boyce was born May 24, 1967, to Dee and Sherrel Boyce in Sheridan, Wyoming. The family lived on the original Boyce Ranch in Hardin, MT until 1982, when they moved to Bozeman, where Bill attended Bozeman High School. Bill wrestled at Bozeman High School and competed in High School Rodeo, in tie down roping, team roping, and steer wrestling.
After graduation, Bill enrolled at MSU and was on the National College Championship team of 1988, competing in calf roping, steer wrestling, and team roping. Bill’s college rodeo teammates were a tight-knit crew, and many remain his closest friends to this day.
In the early 70’s, Bill’s beloved grandparents, Claire (Boycie) and Edna, relocated the Boyce Ranch to the Snowy Mountains near Lewistown, and in 1989 Bill moved home to the ranch, where he worked alongside them and his dad. He bought his first PRCA membership card that same year and continued to pursue his rodeo career.
In April of 1995, Bill married his wife, Kim. Together, they began a family of their own with the birth of their daughter Cody in 1996, and sons Brady and Jett in 1999 and 2004. They raised their children on the ranch and the rodeo trail while Bill competed in both NRA and PRCA rodeos in tie down roping, steer wrestling, and team roping. Bill ultimately became a three-time Montana Circuit PRCA Tie Down Roping Champion and two-time All-Around Champion. He also competed at the Dodge National Circuit Finals in Pocatello, Idaho four times.
Bill’s passion for horses served as a great asset over the years, and he has enjoyed training rodeo athletes and solid ranch horses. The arena at the Boyce Ranch was the center of family life for many years, and it was where Bill and his friends practiced early on in his career. When he was done competing himself, he coached not only his son Brady, but countless other young people, passing his love of rodeo on to another generation.
Today, Bill and Kim are continuing their family ranch legacy on the Boyce Ranch and are happy to have Brady and his wife, Josilyn, with them on the ranch in Lewistown. Cody is a veterinarian at High Plains Vet in Sidney, and Jett is in his senior year playing football at Carroll College in Helena. They enjoy watching Brady compete at Montana Circuit PRCA rodeos, where Bill often hazes, and traveling to all of Jett’s Carroll College football games. They are still avid MSU Bobcat football fans and attend as many football games and rodeo events as they can. In the fall, Bill can be found in the mountains surrounded by bugling elk. Beyond the ranch and rodeo arena, Bill is a founder, partner, and real estate broker with Western Ranch Brokers in Bozeman.
This induction is a humbling experience, one that carries a lot of weight. Many people deserve thanks for help along the way, and Bill takes pride in carrying it forward. Through every chapter of Bill’s life, from the Boyce Ranch to the MSU rodeo team, the PRCA circuit, raising a family, and now helping the next generations, rodeo and the people who come with it have remained a constant. He is quick to recognize the family, friends, teammates, mentors, and competitors who helped him along the way. Perhaps the greatest way he can thank them is the same way rodeo has always moved forward: by passing it on. Whether helping a young person in the arena, working a horse, hazing for his son, or running steers with great friends at the Boyce Ranch, Bill continues to give back to the sport and the rodeo community that has given him so much.
