Did you know that not all states presume a power of attorney is durable, but Kentucky and Indiana do?

A Durable Power of Attorney allows someone you trust to manage your finances if you are unable to, whether that is paying bills, handling accounts, or making financial decisions.

Because these documents are durable in Kentucky and Indiana, they remain in place even if something unexpected happens.

Having this in place means that if a situation comes up, the person you chose can step in and keep things moving without disruption.

If your loved one is a Veteran and in the hospital, it is normal to have questions about what the VA will cover.

The VA provides free care for conditions connected to military service and offers certain services at no cost, including counseling and mental health care.

For other medical needs, coverage may still be available, but copays can apply based on eligibility.

If you are not sure what applies to your situation, this is a good time to review VA benefits so you can move forward with a better understanding of your options.

June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, and many families first notice changes they are not sure how to explain.

You might see your parent asking the same question more than once, missing a bill they always
paid, or getting confused in a familiar place.

If you are noticing patterns like this, it is worth starting the conversation now, so your family
can understand what may be changing and begin planning before decisions become more
difficult.

Linda, thank you for your kind words. Knowing we were able to make the process feel a little lighter and less stressful means a great deal to us.

In Kentucky and Indiana, the home is often protected from Medicaid while your parent is alive if:
• They or their spouse still lives there
• The home value is within Medicaid limits
• There is intent to return home, even if that never happens

That means: Needing care does not automatically put the house at risk and many families make rushed decisions based on that assumption.

Do not sell, transfer, or spend down assets until you know whether the home is already protected under Medicaid rules.

Happy Birthday to Neil Aboulhosn! 🎉

Fun fact: May 27 isn’t just cake-and-candles day for Neil—it’s also his work anniversary. That’s right… he literally started his journey with us on his birthday (talk about commitment 😄).

We are lucky to have someone who would chose to spend his birthday working with us from day one, and who continues to show up for our clients and our team year after year.

Cheers to you, Neil!

We pause to remember those who gave everything in service to our nation. Their sacrifice is woven into the freedoms we experience every day. This Memorial Day, we honor them with respect and gratitude.

As your child steps into their next chapter, it is natural to start thinking about your own. When long-term care comes up, home ownership is often the first concern, and the place where a lot of assumptions begin:

“If I own a home, I won’t qualify for help”
“If I get help, I’ll lose everything”
“There’s nothing we can do to protect it”

These thoughts can stop families from taking the next step. The truth is more nuanced. With the right planning, there are ways to protect the home. It just needs to happen before decisions feel urgent.
