We at Dennie Hardin and Associates will continue battling in the trenches for the rights and liberties of our clients all over South Central Kentucky. While we may not shake your hands, you’re still important to us. Just don’t come around us if you’re sick. We’ll take care of your court appearances. And get this! Some local jails believe the possible risks of exposure outweigh its inmates’ constitutional rights to counsel. Yes, folks, attorney visits are banned. We’ll just see how long that one lasts. In the meantime, stay safe.

Several people have asked me about how impeachment works, following the House of Representatives’ return of two articles of impeachment against President Trump. In short it works like this: the lower house brings the charge, and the upper house disposes of the charge, whether that be by removal (guilty) or acquittal (not guilty). It is a process similar to a Grand Jury indictment. The articles of impeachment are a formal allegation of wrongdoing, and the Senate acts like the trial court.

Confession is good for your soul but not for your case. Don’t talk to the police, at least until you first have spoken to a lawyer. Trust me, you’re not smarter than the police and you won’t be able to talk yourself out of whatever jam you’re in.

I just received word of the passing of one of my clients. I can't even tell you what number this is for me--25-30, at least. All have left a wake of hurting people. Most have gone tragically; some have gone violently. The common factor with most, if not all, is substance abuse. This is a tough business.

In all my years of practicing law, I've only had to ask two people to leave my office. Today was the second time. In fact, the young man who was asked to leave even squared off against me, as though he was going to punch me. Fun times!

My next jury trial is number 99. Over the past month, I have had two Circuit Court jury trials ready to go, but both were dismissed before trial. The reason is because the prosecutor, who has a duty to see that justice is done, did the right thing in each case and dismissed for various reasons. I commend each of these two prosecutors. As much as I would have liked to have reached 99 and 100 on probable not guilty verdicts, I am satisfied that my clients got good outcomes.
