This past week I have received the approval of two very different cases:
1) couple had not been married very long, filed for an adjustment of status, had a disastrous interview, and were denied. They came to me for the appeal, I advised them that re-filing was the way to go, and, after three long years waiting after we re-filed, they were finally approved.
2) at the removal of conditions stage (2 to 10 year green card), previous lawyer convinces them path of least resistance is to pretend to still be together even though they are not. Then previous attorney advises to apply for citizenship while that is still pending (clearly in the middle of an investigation). The attorney also knew that a lease that was submitted with both signatures was a fake, but told them to do it anyway. I advised them to come clean about the lies and just own the truth. The citizenship was denied for lying but the permanent green card was approved after another, very painful, three year wait.
And what a capstone to my year it was to make the immigration issues for those clients dissipate just a bit. Happy and prosperous new year to all.
