The other week, I spoke at my first real estate investing networking event in years. I’ve never really fit in at these gatherings and therefore avoided them.

I figured out long ago that if I wanted to be an investor, I’d have to carve my own path. I couldn’t do things the way other people were because my age, gender, financial situation, skill set, and resources weren’t the same.

During the event, I presented about what it means to be authentic in your investing strategy. Because here’s the truth: you don’t need to do it the way everyone else is doing it. The best investment strategy is the one that feels true to you.

The Boston investing scene is still very much the old Boys’ Club. It’s tough to break into, especially if you’re new and don’t have established connections. It’s valid for it to feel intimidating, but that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve a seat at the table.

Most of my investor clients are starting from scratch—no networks, no head starts. They’re hungry for knowledge.

And here’s the thing: It’s totally okay to not have all the answers and to be in the process of figuring it out.

Behind the polished exteriors, everyone is just trying to navigate the best way they can.

That’s the whole point of networking! The goal is to make connections and share ideas, not to pretend you have it all together.

I could feel people starting to let their guards down as we acknowledged that reality.

This was a fantastic event put on by with some open and honest conversations.

So if you’re feeling like an outsider, know that you’re not alone. Remember, it’s okay to be in progress, and you belong in the room just as much as anyone else.

Third trimester, we’re ready for you!🤰I see you, young families, navigating the twists and turns of parenthood while trying to make your real estate dreams a reality...
