A SPRING 2020 ESTATE PLANNING UPDATE
For Our Clients and Colleagues
As we become accustomed to the “New Normal” occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic, we can begin now to return to our former paradigms for working with our valued clients to address their estate planning needs. We expect within the coming weeks to transition from working exclusively remotely to being able to schedule meetings in our office to discuss planning considerations and to execute documents which we have previously prepared for our clients. It is our intention to institute sufficient protections to make certain everyone involved in these meetings feels sufficiently safe and comfortable to participate.
For clients who prefer for our interaction to remain virtual, we will continue to communicate by telephone, video conferencing, and emails. We will also continue to utilize remote notarization so long as it remains available under the provisions of the recent emergency Massachusetts legislation.
However, our strong preference is to meet with our clients in person to discuss the sensitive issues inherent in the estate planning process. We look forward to hearing from clients and their advisors to schedule consultations and appointments for the ex*****on of estate planning documents.
Among other issues for discussion, we welcome the opportunity to explore the effect of the pandemic on philanthropic planning, recent developments in planning for retirement accounts under the CARES Act, and estate planning techniques tailored to a low interest environment.
We sincerely hope you are well and staying safe, and we remain grateful that our Schmidt & Federico team and their families have remained healthy. We pledge to continue to adapt to the changing demands on our profession as we maintain our commitment to you.
Sincerely,
Mary H. Schmidt ([email protected])
