Foley Hoag is proud to have signed an amicus brief supporting Perkins Coie in its claims against the federal government arising out of the Executive Order directed at that law firm.

We made this decision even though only fourteen (14) AmLaw 200 firms signed onto the brief. We concluded that this was the right thing to do for Foley Hoag, even if we were one of a small number of the country’s largest firms that participated.

By joining the amicus brief, we are not only supporting our colleagues at Perkins Coie (and, by extension, other firms targeted by similar Executive Orders), but also advancing the values and principles that guide our own practice and service to our clients.

Thank you to the Bay State Banner for highlighting our recent event in commemoration of the landmark civil rights case, Morgan v. Hennigan, featuring speakers Stanley Forman, a photojournalist who took the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo “The Soiling of Old Glory" and subject of the photo, Dr. Theodore “Ted” Landsmark, 50 years later. Read more about the photograph and event at:

On April 5, 1976, Theodore “Ted” Landsmark, a Black, New York-born lawyer living in Boston, was rushing to a meeting with a development agency to discuss how to create opportunities for minority construction workers. When the 29-year-old reached City Hall Plaza, he crossed paths with a rowdy gro...

This International Women's Day, we aim to Inspire Inclusion by acknowledging the role and responsibility we have to promote and practice inclusion in our daily lives, our families, communities, workplaces, and institutions. We can inspire others by telling our stories, celebrating our successes, and empowering and mentoring more women and girls. Hear from some of our people, including Diana Paraguacuto-Mahéo, Tommy Shi, Tracy Vrablik, and XhiDae Otam, who are doing exactly that - because women and girls deserve the right to equal opportunities, resources, and voices in every aspect of life, from education and health to politics and economy.

Thank you to all who joined us last week for the most recent programming in our commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Morgan v. Hennigan, the landmark civil rights decision that ordered Boston Public Schools to desegregate. We’d also like to sincerely thank our speakers Dr. Theodore "Ted" Landsmark, Stanley Forman, and moderator Jeffrey Mullan, Partner and Trustee of the Foley Hoag Foundation for their participation. Dr. Landsmark is a distinguished educator, lawyer, and civic leader, who was the subject of the Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph, "The Soiling of Old Glory", taken by Stanley Forman in 1976, which sparked national outrage and debate over racism, civil rights, and patriotism. Dr. Landsmark and Mr. Forman were kind enough to share their thoughts about the moment that transformed their lives and the nation and discuss the legacy and relevance of the photograph today. This event was also part of our Black History Month celebrations, which centered around “African Americans and the Arts.”
