We deeply regret to inform you of the recent passing of Attorney Freya Allen Shoffner.
Freya passed after an unexpected and brief stay in ICU, where she received extraordinary care and was surrounded by friends and family.
Freya's memorial will be held at First Congregational Church in Marshfield, 1981 Ocean Street, Saturday, April 13th, 1:00 pm.
Freya’s representatives are evaluating her practice and taking appropriate steps to protect her clients’ interests. We ask for your understanding during this time.
Current clients of Shoffner & Associates may choose to seek legal counsel elsewhere. The firm will comply with requests for record transfers, and work to achieve smooth and timely transfers. For those who wish to remain with the firm, steps are being taken to secure coverage for those in need of legal representation and guidance.
Our thoughts and prayers extend to Freya's family and friends, and to the clients who have been so special to her, ever in her daily thoughts and actions.

Women’s History Month – Clara Hapgood Nash

Clara Hapgood Nash, ca. 1893. Clara Holmes Hapgood Nash (January 15, 1839 – March 18, 1921) was an American lawyer who was the first woman admitted to the bar in New England (Maine).

Born Clara Holmes Hapgood in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, she was the fifth of eight children of John and Mary Ann Hosmer Hapgood.[1] On her mother’s side she was related to the sculptor Harriet Hosmer, while on her father’s side she was related to Henry Durant, the founding president of the University of California.
