As many of you know, today was my first jury trial in my 18 1/2 year career. I am pleased to report that my 14 year trial winning streak remains intact. Kelly McMorran asked me back in February if I would co-counsel with her on this case as she was expecting it to go to a jury trial and because she had not done a jury trial in 18 years. Trial lasted 3 hours and the jury was out less than an hour and returned with a resounding NOT GUILTY!!! Our client, a single hardworking mother of two (has two jobs) was properly vindicated. I want to thank all of you for your confidence and faith in us as well as your kindness and support.

There are TOO many cases and NOT enough lawyers that have been trained to do this work. Moreover, the vast majority of people held in jail have significant mental health problems and substance use disorders. Treatment is NOT offered in jail. Until we as a society want to address those issues then THIS issue will not be resolved and will only get worse.

The state's failing to recruit enough attorneys, some say; others blame prosecutors for filing too many cases. Everyone agrees it's a crisis.
