Over the past few days, our attorneys, staff, and their spouses who were part of the Giamanco Law Partners team in 2025 traded their offices for sunshine and headed to the Dominican Republic for some well-deserved time away together!

We take great pride in working hard for our clients, but we also recognize that taking care of our team is just as important. Opportunities like this allow us to strengthen friendships, make memories, recharge, and return ready to continue delivering the service our clients deserve.

Yesterday, Giamanco Law Partners Managing Partner Joe Giamanco presented in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, as part of the Will County Bar Association’s traveling legal education seminar.

Joe’s presentation focused on Illinois’ Civil Liability for Doxing Act, which took effect on January 1, 2024.

Earlier this year, Joe represented the plaintiff in the first case brought under the Act to proceed to a trial and verdict. Drawing on that experience, Joe shared practical insights with fellow attorneys and judges about the statute, litigating claims under this relatively new law, and lessons learned from taking a doxing case through trial.

We’re proud to see Joe sharing his experience with members of the Illinois legal community and helping attorneys better understand this developing area of law.

⚖️ Trial VICTORY! ⚖️

Yesterday, our attorney Matt Wilger took a case to jury trial where the Plaintiff insisted on moving forward, even though there were some significant holes in the case. Rather than settling, Matt was prepared to take the case all the way.

And the result? The Judge granted a directed verdict in our client’s favor! 🎉

So, what does that mean for the client?

A directed verdict is a significant and unique result because it means the case was taken away from the jury entirely. After hearing the evidence, the Judge determined that the Plaintiff had not presented enough evidence to legally support sending the case to the jury for a decision.

In other words: the jury never even had to deliberate.

Directed verdicts are not something you see in every trial. They require the evidence (and the law) to be strong enough that there is no legally sufficient basis for the opposing side’s claim to proceed to the jury. It also takes an experienced attorney who knows when and how to make those arguments.

This was a huge win for our client, and a great example of why preparation, knowing the weaknesses in the opposing case, and being willing to actually try a case matter.

Never Forget.

Today we pause to remember September 11, 2001 — twenty-five years later.

We honor the nearly 3,000 lives taken that morning, the first responders who ran toward the danger, the passengers who fought back, and every family that still carries the loss.

Their courage and sacrifice remain a call to service, unity, and the rule of law.
