Idaho Education Association

Idaho Education Association We are Idaho's public school educators. We support and advocate for all students and educators across the state.

The Idaho Education Association is the professional organization for people who have chosen a career in education. We are a member-driven organization that provides professional support for educators, advocates for public schools and public education, and seeks to help create the best possible learning environment for students and teachers. We recognize that children are our greatest resource, and

that good public schools and highly-trained teachers are the most important factor in their future success. We also believe that public education is the backbone of our democracy and a critical ingredient to strong communities. The IEA is actively involved in education on many fronts—advocating on behalf of teachers and students at the capitol, collaborating with other education stakeholders, working with our local associations on bargaining with their districts, providing essential professional development trainings, and raising money for students in need through our Children’s Fund, just to name a few. We welcome input, feedback and support from all who are interested in making Idaho a great place to teach, learn and live. Feel free to visit our website at idahoea.org, follow us on Twitter , or give us a call at 208-344-1341.

In observance of Juneteenth, IEA offices will be closed on Friday, June 19.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when news of emancipation finally reached more than 250,000 enslaved Black Americans in Texas. For generations, Black communities have observed this day—also known as Freedom Day, Emancipation Day, and Jubilee Day—as a celebration of freedom and a remembrance of this pivotal moment in American history.

After decades of advocacy and organizing, Juneteenth was designated a federal holiday in 2021.

🦋 How One IEA Member Turned a Middle School Hallway Into a Lesson About Humanity 🦋

Every year, Raul Pedraza's eighth grade social studies students create original artwork and memorials honoring the victims of the Holocaust. Butterflies have become a central symbol in Vallivue Middle School’s annual exhibit, inspired by a poem by Pavel Friedman, a young prisoner imprisoned in the Terezín ghetto.

Idaho is pro-public education.

Through May Matters, IEA members helped make public education one of the defining issues of yesterday's election. Our voices carried into communities, onto doorsteps, through phone calls, at town halls, and all the way to the ballot box.

And the results reflected that effort.

This election was bigger than any single race. It was about amplifying educator voices and reminding our legislature that strong public schools matter in all communities and in every corner of this state.

Over the past several months, IEA members showed up in every corner of Idaho for May Matters:

-50+ events and trainings statewide
-Thousands of phone calls, door knocks, and conversations with voters
-Dozens of educator-led candidate interviews and endorsements through the Political Action Committee for Education (PACE)
-Countless volunteer hours spent advocating for Idaho public schools and students

And tonight, no matter the outcome of any single race, one thing is clear: the momentum is real.

More educators are engaged, organized, and ready to shape the future of Idaho public education than we’ve seen in years. Together, we built relationships, strengthened local leadership, and reminded communities across Idaho that public schools matter.

Tonight, we celebrate every educator, volunteer, local leader, and supporter who chose to step forward, speak up, and show up for each other.

Tomorrow, we keep building to November.

Now, Election Day is upon us — Tuesday, May 19. Your vote is one more way to show up for your community, your students, and one another.

After all the work our members have done together, let’s finish strong.
