Happy Spring Friday from BrooksStone Law & Counsel. Today we write the about Legal Disclaimers.

To really distill it down, a legal disclaimer is simply owning responsibility for you or your company’s limitations and making others aware of them. Disclaimers inform customers or clients of potential risks about your product, establish boundaries around your scope of service and inform consumers about realistic expectations they should have when doing business with you.

If drafted correctly, a legal disclaimer is an incredibly powerful and effective tool to limit your legal liability. And it’s usually something I recommend to almost every business.

Lawsuits usually arise from poor communication surrounding a business transaction. Avoiding disputes in business starts with understanding what your limitations or risks are, and then communicating those limitations or risks to your clients through agreement.
