It's National Teen Driver Safety Week, and while my kids aren't driving yet, I already know we'll be having this conversation long before they get the keys.

I've handled enough car accident cases to know how overwhelming those first few minutes can be, even for adults. Now imagine being 16, scared and worried you're in trouble.

I want my kids to know how to get somewhere safe, what information to collect and, most importantly, that they can call me.

If you have a teen driver at home, take a few minutes this week to talk through what to do after a crash. It's a conversation worth having before they ever need it.

What gets me about this case is that Tennessee had already seen what could go wrong just four months earlier.

So what actually changed before they tried again?

Whatever your opinion on the death penalty, when the government takes on a responsibility this serious, competence should be the bare minimum.

“I felt taken care of.”

That part of Colson’s review matters to me because a personal injury case can take over a lot more of someone’s life than people expect.

There are appointments, bills, paperwork, insurance calls and long stretches where you’re waiting for the next thing to happen. I want my clients to feel like someone is keeping track of all of it with them.

That means explaining what’s happening, keeping them updated and making sure they know they can call me when something doesn’t make sense.

Colson also said we made a stressful process feel manageable, and that’s exactly how I want someone to feel when they trust us with their case.

Thank you, Colson, for trusting us.

If you’ve been hurt and want me to take a look, send me a message and tell me what happened.

A lot can change while the same auto policy quietly renews in the background.

A new car, a new driver, a different commute or kids getting older can all change what your coverage needs to do for your family.

That’s why I think it’s worth a fresh look, not just something you do once and forget about.

Send me your current declarations page. I’ll look at the coverage with you, flag anything I’d want you to understand or ask your agent about, and tell you if something stands out to me.

If everything looks good, I’ll tell you that too.

The Auto Policy Review link is in my bio.

My take on this one is probably stronger than most.

I am terrified of e-bikes and electric scooters for kids, and mine will not be getting them.

Part of what I think parents should know is that Florida law is actually pretty permissive. You don’t need a driver’s license to operate a motorized scooter. They’re not registered or insured like cars, and e-bikes are largely treated like bicycles. There can be additional local rules, but I think a lot of parents see kids riding these everywhere and assume there must be much more regulation around them than there actually is.

For me, that’s the bigger point.

Just because Florida law allows something doesn’t mean I think it’s safe for my child.

You’re putting a kid who has no driving experience or real understanding of traffic on something motorized, around cars, intersections and distracted drivers…and at higher speeds.

Mine are not getting them.

If you have kids asking for one, I’m curious where you’ve landed.

I care a lot about being both of these things at the same time.

I want to be the attorney who knows the case well enough to push back when something doesn’t add up, and I also want my clients to feel like they can call me when they’re overwhelmed, confused or just need someone to explain what happens next.

Those things have never felt separate to me.

Maybe that’s the mom in me. Maybe it’s just the way I’m wired.

I want people to feel taken care of while also knowing I’m paying attention to the details that matter in their case.

Thank you, Seth, for taking the time to write this.

We spend a lot of time teaching kids what to do before they cross the street.

Stop. Look. Use the crosswalk. Pay attention.

Adults behind the wheel need just as much of the reminder.

School arrival has parked cars, turning vehicles, bikes, backpacks and kids moving through spaces where a driver’s view can change in a second.

A child can do everything right and still be hard to see.

That’s what I think about when I’m driving through a school zone, and it’s the reminder I want adults behind the wheel to take into the 2026 Walk to School Day today.

Slow down, look twice and give yourself the extra minute.

Palm Beach County parents, 2026 Walk to School Day is this Wednesday, October 7! 👟🚲

Kushel Law Group is proud to support Safe Kids Palm Beach County and local elementary schools this year. We’re especially excited about how this sponsorship is helping children get where they are going safely.

Our sponsorship is helping Safe Kids restock walk-safety signs and banners for participating schools, with important safety messages in both English and Spanish.

As a personal injury attorney and a mom, I think a lot about what happens after someone gets hurt, but I also believe in doing what we can to help prevent those injuries in the first place.

School drop-off and pick-up can be busy. Kids are walking between parked cars, bikes are moving through, parents are pulling in and out, and there’s a lot happening in a small space.
Sometimes, keeping families safe starts with something as simple as slowing down, paying attention and reminding each other to be careful.

That’s why partnerships like this mean so much to us at Kushel Law Group. Our commitment to families isn’t just about being there after an injury. It’s about helping create safer communities, too. ❤️

If your school is participating on Wednesday, tag us! We’d love to see your crew out walking and rolling. 👟🚲
