Ayer, nuestro Comité, Lowcountry Partnership Committee se reunió nuevamente para nuestra reunión mensual, no solamente para hablar, sino para escuchar, planificar y tomar acción.

Uno de los próximos pasos en los que estamos trabajando es una breve encuesta para los dueños de negocios de nuestra comunidad. Queremos escucharlos directamente:

¿Cuáles son sus desafíos?
¿Qué oportunidades están buscando?
¿Qué recursos hacen falta?
¿Y qué podemos hacer juntos para fortalecer nuestra comunidad empresarial?

Porque si queremos crear un cambio significativo, tenemos que comenzar escuchando.

Nuestra misión es más grande que una organización, un negocio o un evento.

Estamos trabajando para construir puentes entre nuestra comunidad hispana y las organizaciones, instituciones, líderes y empresas que forman parte del Lowcountry.

Diferentes historias. Diferentes experiencias. Una comunidad. Un futuro.

Quizás no siempre hablamos del trabajo que hacemos… pero seguimos haciendo el trabajo.

For those who have somehow escaped the brilliant marketing of Bannon Law Group, you might be a bit perplexed by the unique nature of the firm.

Founded by husband-and-wife team Jim and Meredith Bannon, the practice uniquely offers a blend of real estate and HOA service with seasoned criminal defense. It’s two very different legal fields to combine under a single banner, but it’s a natural extension of Meredith’s focus on real estate and Jim’s focus on criminal defense.

And while Jim has proven himself as a skilled defense attorney, the new locations they’ve opened in Charleston and Savannah might just give him a future in sports broadcasting.

“I listen to a lot of PTI (Pardon the Interruption) and sports podcasts – which is tough this time of year because it’s pretty much just baseball,” he said.
He’s getting plenty of time to catch up, being an in-demand attorney with clients across two states.

“One day last week, I drove to Ridgeland for a hearing, down to Pooler for a closing, back to Ridgeland for a different hearing, and then ultimately back here to finish up my day.”

It’s a lot of travel, but that’s all relative. Before landing in Bluffton 18 years ago, he went from the University of Miami’s law school, where he first met Meredith, to Arizona, where he served as a prosecutor.

When South Carolina’s Fourteenth Judicial Circuit Solicitor Duffy Stone was forming the career criminal team, he found the Bannons, and the rest is history.

“Experiencing the legal profession in a number of different places, first studying in Florida then practicing in Arizona and now South Carolina and Georgia, as well as being licensed in Washington, D.C., has given me a great perspective on how different systems can be and take what works well from each,” Bannon said.

That perspective forged a unique approach to the law, one seasoned by the lessons learned at each stop and now applied to a rapidly growing law firm.

“I think my philosophy on the law is that it’s kind of like golf. You have to play the course you’re given,” he said. “You can’t change the facts, but you can change what will be considered admissible in court. You can take some air out of the balloon. If you can do that, it’s the same charge, but you’re playing a completely different course.”

It’s a simile fit for ESPN. But until they come calling, those facing criminal charges in South Carolina and Georgia can rely on the experienced defense that Bannon brings to each case.
