Who knew? We've stocked up on regular masks and non-sterile latex gloves, so the good stuff could be prioritized to hospital and medical office personnel.

In an attempt to minimize the spread of COVID-19, wearing masks in public is becoming the new normal. Whether it’s a cloth mask or an N95 respirator, anything covering your mouth and nose will do—just as long as it doesn’t come with a valve.

Thought this might come in handy as a tool against anxiety. Have not seen a similar survey, but I am sure they exist. We are in the 2nd worst County in the 2and worst State, just 10 miles from NYC, and our anxiety levels are through the roof!

Be Well, and Stay Safe! Masks and 6 feet, please. Why take a chance?

The idea about a safe word is a good one.

Re the ruses, I am pretty savvy, but I nearly got swindled by at least a trio pretending to be Dell Technical Support. They called; the Caller ID must have been spoofed too and wanted to talk to me about the blue screens I had been having. And, oddly enough, I had been having blue screen problems, 10 just that day.

The Dell service used to call you proactively as this trio did; when Dell stopped, I have no idea. I wish I had been notified; such an action on Dell's part, would have nipped this in the bud a lot earlier!

Yet, these guys had all my contact info, make/model of laptop, warranty info, and nos on all stickers on bottom of computer. Plus, they were able to advise when my coverage expired! Again, another point of breakdown which could have stopped this trio in their tracks. Alas!

When they told me that I needed to purchase a specific new router preinstalled with a firewall that night: My connection was insecure, hence Dell was potentially insecure as a result.

They gave me a ticket no and advised that a tech would be by the next day by 9 am with a check to refund my money and run some diagnostics on my computer to make sure everything was ok. If I recall correctly, the rep would bring a replacement router for the one I'd just bought too which I was supposed to relinquish to her.

So I freak out at first. Looks like Dell, sounds like Dell, seems like Dell - followed same type of protocols as Dell. But I don't have the 3K on hand to do that right then nor would I for at least three or four days. And I feel some heat from the trio.

Then I start to think, "If you're Dell, the potential fallout from any security breach is way biased in your favor - you've got much more liability here than I do. Why am I running to the store in the early evenin, shelling out cash? No, you're Dell; YOU make it happen tonight. You've got the resources, and if it comes down to getting cameras involved, you will definitely lose in the court of public opinion. My family and I make an excellent example of folks big business do not want to be seen railroading; we cut very sympathetic figures next to guys in multi-K suits."

The call ended. They tried to call back the next morning, but I again called their bluff. And another hang up.

When I called Dell about it, they shrugged it off. I asked about these folks knowing so much about my computer and warranty and was told that such information isn't regarded as confidential😳

If a business is so cavalier with any of my information, no wonder there are so many data breaches. They aren't really trying to protect our data so much as their own!

For shame!!!!👎👎👎👎

Happy Veteran's Day!! As an Army brat (Dad was career Army Officer), I've lived on three continents and traveled a lot besides. I've seen first-hand how terrible it can be in the world for the majority of its people. Our military, their sacrifice and esp those of their families, is nowhere near celebrated enough!

Thank you all for your sacrifice, dedication, and honor! You are a special breed!

As I mentioned in my intro, it was part of my journey to discover that I could no longer work in a corporate environment. I am thankful to have found opportunities that permitted me to work from my couch at 3 am. It also allowed me permission to take care of my family without remorse that I might be jeopardizing my career.

I saw this article and thought I'd share it with you.

While I have nothing to hide, in fact, I am a pretty open book, I do not have any reason to share or unwittingly give personal details of my life to any company, much less one that would monetize it. And the sentiment is not directed at FB alone; it holds true for just about any major company I can think of.

It's depended on the part of life I'm in, too. When I was younger, I could acclimate to temperature extremes much more readily. In fact, my family was coming returning to the States from my Dad's posting in Pakistan where we lived in Quetta, high desert and temperature extremes of both hot and very cold.

We sat on our connection at JFK for over two and a half hours; the entire while I had my headphones on listening to Mr. Mister, Duran Duran, A-Ha (I was a New Wave kid) or something similar and didn't realize that the people around me were trying to avoid taking their skin off. The reason we hadn't left the gate was due to a faulty air conditioning system, and as a result, it was quite warm in the plane.

However, in Quetta, Pakistan, the Hot season is in May, June, July, August, and September, and it was not in any way unusual for the temperature to hover around 95F for much, if not most, of that time, and then without the benefit of any, at times, rainstorm/thunderstorm breaks to cool the air, as the Hot season was simultaneously the Dryest season, of course! A saving grace was that the mean relative humidity didn't increase much over 40% - it really, truly is the humidity that gets to you.

But as Ramadan (or Ramazan as it's known in Pakistan) generally takes place during the hot season. Those that fast suffer, especially those that work outside. I've actually seen just shy of skinny elderly Pakistani men on their haunches by the side of a road adding to the road by breaking big rocks down into smaller rocks by hand (and some hand-held instrument). They were out in 100-degree weather without food or water in the bright sunshine making gravel manually! And deaths resulted every so often from such work.

Summer’s great indoor-temperature debate rages on.
