Meet the team!

Courtney Kosse
Paralegal
Primary Office: Fargo, ND

In 2026, Courtney joined Carranza Immigration Law as a paralegal. She brings over a decade of experience across several areas of law. Her broad legal background provides her with a well-rounded perspective and a strong foundation for supporting clients throughout the immigration process.

In 2016, Courtney earned her bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies from Minnesota State University Moorhead. In September 2019, she earned an Advanced Certified Paralegal certification. In 2025, she earned a Core Registered Paralegal Certification. Courtney enjoys expanding her knowledge and professional network through continuing education opportunities.

Originally from a small town in southern Minnesota, Courtney now resides in West Fargo, North Dakota. She is active in her community and volunteers with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Pray for Gray, and other charitable organizations. Outside of work, Courtney loves traveling and has visited several countries, embracing the opportunity to experience new places and cultures. She also enjoys kayaking, cuddling with her puppies, playing bingo, reading, visiting wineries, attending concerts, and relaxing with a good Netflix series.

Courtney’s love of travel and appreciation for different cultures connect her personally to her work and the diverse clients and families she has the privilege of serving.

It's a privilege to work alongside the next generation of advocates—especially when they keep coming back. We're happy to welcome Dr. Karen Hooge Michalka for her third summer with Carranza Immigration Law.

Karen grew up in Cavalier County, North Dakota, where her parents modeled hospitality by befriending newcomers to the community. She studied sociology at Wheaton College and the University of Notre Dame, where she earned her Ph.D. studying immigrant congregations in the Midwest. She taught at the University of Mary until 2024, when she left academia to pursue a law degree.

Karen has lived in Mexico and speaks Spanish. She has served as board president of the nonprofit Global Neighbors and is also a Master Gardener Intern. We are grateful to have her back on our team this summer.

Hannah Koch
Legal Administrative Assistant

Hannah Koch was born and raised in Bismarck, North Dakota. She is a rising senior at the University of Mary double majoring in English education and Spanish. Her experiences with English learner students and deep love for diversity and travel have inspired her to pursue a career in immigration law.

At the University of Mary, Hannah is President of the Spanish Club and Ambassador for the university’s Global Studies programs. In 2025, Hannah joined Carranza Immigration Law as a Legal Administrative Assistant. She is thrilled to be working with this team where both her passion and skills are put to work to welcome and support clients.
