What is Juneteenth?
Juneteenth commemorates June 19,1865, the day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce that the Civil War had ended and over 250,000 enslaved black people were free.
This was 2 years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation which declared all enslaved people were legally free!
