Congratulations to Managing Partner Josh Wright, Partner John Spade, and Attorney Blake Cordova on securing a $1.75 million verdict recently in Jefferson County, Alabama! Client Gary Jackson, a laborer and machine operator at the AMICO facility in West Birmingham, was injured on a leveler roller machine with an inward running nip point (crush point) that was unguarded at the time of injury. At the trial, all company employees agreed that the machine should have been guarded at the time of injury.

The case, a co-employee machine guarding case, was tried for 9 days in front of the Hon. Judge Javan Crayton.

$400,000 JURY VERDICT.

After a two-day trial in Jackson County, Alabama, HWC Attorneys Craig Shirley and Blake Cordova secured a $400,000 verdict for our deserving client against Dollar General.

This case was about accountability.

Dollar General employees created an unsafe condition in the lobby of its store. Our client fell. She was injured. And when the time came to take responsibility, Dollar General’s position was that she was not entitled to recover anything.

So we tried the case.

For two days, the jury heard the evidence, saw what happened, and listened to Dollar General’s defenses.

Then they rejected them.

This is why the civil justice system matters. When a corporation refuses to accept responsibility, twelve members of the community have the power to hold it accountable.

We are grateful to the jurors for their time, attention, and service, and for giving our client the opportunity to have her case heard.

Most importantly, we are grateful to our client for trusting Craig and Blake, and the rest of HWC team to stand beside her and fight for her in the courtroom.

Justice requires a courtroom sometimes.

And when it does, we are ready.
