Stop trying to explain your case on the jail phone.

Those calls are monitored and can be recorded, which means anything you say can be used later in court. If you’re on the phone trying to clear things up, give details, or tell somebody what happened, you may be doing the prosecution’s job for them.

“We’ll figure it out” sounds peaceful until it doesn’t. What starts as an easy, no-court arrangement can turn into confusion real fast once schedules shift, feelings change, or new relationships enter the picture.

That’s when people start arguing about the kids, money, and who’s really supposed to be doing what. If there’s no real plan in place, the whole setup can fall apart the moment things get messy.

A good co-parenting agreement isn’t about expecting drama — it’s about protecting yourself from it.

If the police ask, “You don’t mind if I take a look, right?” that is not small talk — it’s a request to search. And you do not have to say yes just because you don’t want to seem rude or look guilty.

Be calm. Be respectful. Be clear: “I do not consent to any searches.” Once you give permission, you may be opening the door to more than you realized, and you can’t take that back after the fact.

So yes, just say no from the start.

Stop putting your case on social media. I don’t care if you’re winning, losing, venting, or “just telling your side.” If it’s online, it can become evidence, and screenshots travel faster than your explanation ever will.

I’ve seen people hurt their own case because they wanted validation from the internet instead of guidance from a lawyer. The judge is not looking for the best post, the most shares, or who sounds the most convincing online. They’re looking at your behavior, your statements, and your credibility.

Before you hit post, ask yourself one question: would I be okay with this being brought up in court? If the answer is no, don’t post it.
