In PA news, a deadly road rage incident puts Pennsylvania's “Stand Your Ground” Law to the test. Allentown PA Police responded to a violent road rage incident after a motorist allegedly forced another vehicle off the road. This incident highlights how complex and unpredictable the legal system can be, especially when self-defense is involved.

One motorist was fatally shot by another in a road rage case at Fifth and Hamilton streets in Allentown. When the driver came out of his car swinging a baseball bat, was he putting the other at risk of death or severe injury? The Lehigh County district attorney will decide.

CT joins NY in the "Clean Slate Law," with some distinction, targeting the fall of 2025 to resume the automatic erasure process. This initiative is seen by some as a victory for advocates who have argued that a criminal record, even for minor offenses, can create lifelong barriers to housing, employment, and education.

After years of delays, CT officials are targeting fall 2025 to resume automatic erasure of most old criminal records under Clean Slate law.

Obscure Distillery is suing New York State over its direct shipping laws, which block out-of-state distilleries from sending spirits directly to consumers. The company argues these rules unfairly favor local producers and violate the Constitution by restricting fair competition across state lines. See the constitutional concerns here:

The Obscure Distillery, a craft spirits maker in Los Angeles, is suing the New York State Liquor Authority in federal court, arguing that a 2024 shipping law discriminates against distillers from states like California. If successful, the case could reshape how liquor is shipped across state lines.

Starting August 1, phone calls from New York state prisons will be free. The hope is that changes like this will remove financial barriers that have long strained families and made reentry more difficult.

New York will soon make phone calls free in its state prisons. People who are incarcerated in the state’s prisons currently receive three free, 15-minute phone calls a week.

Ever wondered how Taylor Swift took back her music? She used copyright law and a clever re-recording strategy to regain control. See how:

Because of Swift’s actions, artists (and their agents and managers) should have a better understanding of what they might be giving up when they enter into a recording contract.

New York has experienced a significant increase in cases being dismissed due to prosecutors failing to meet "speedy trial" deadlines. The number of court cases dismissed doubled from 2021 to 2022, coinciding with changes in state law that compel district attorneys to turn over evidence to defense lawyers more quickly. While some critics argue these reforms are overwhelming local prosecutors, others contend that the non-compliance has led to thousands of dismissals involving potentially dangerous defendants, raising public safety concerns. https://www.law360.com/articles/1837629/ny-discovery-reform-feud-simmers-between-das-defenders

Four years after New York imposed new requirements on prosecutors to more promptly hand over evidence to defendants in criminal cases, data suggests that district attorneys’ offices are still struggling to comply. In the meantime, experts and advocates say many are quietly working to tweak the ref...

𝐄𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 f𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 F𝐁𝐈 𝐀𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭. For an 84-year-old Long Island resident, a routine traffic stop in Rensselaer County quickly escalated into a federal impersonation charge. Hoping to evade a ticket on May 22, Broomall allegedly presented a law enforcement badge and falsely identified himself as a retired FBI agent to troopers. However, his deceptive ploy was short-lived; an investigation confirmed he had no history with the FBI or any law enforcement agency. Now, instead of a simple traffic fine, Broomall is charged with first-degree criminal impersonation and is being held without bail at the Rensselaer County Correctional Facility. https://nypost.com/2025/06/16/us-news/elderly-long-island-man-locked-up-after-claiming-to-be-fbi-to-dodge-traffic-ticket-cops

Earl Broomall, 84, thought he could get out of an upstate traffic ticket by claiming he was once a federal agent — but state troopers didn’t play along, police said.
