Dr. Gina Merrittβs journey began with her own experience living in affordable housing, which inspired her to dedicate her life to transforming how communities are built and sustained.
After landing her first job in real estate development by chance, she quickly realized her purpose was rooted in creating opportunities for people who had long been left behind by traditional housing systems.
Facing repeated financial barriers as a Black woman with no inherited wealth, she built her expertise in development, finance, and construction, eventually founding Northern Real Estate Urban Ventures (NREUV). Through her company and her initiative, Project Community Capital, she connects developers with local workers, entrepreneurs, and residents, ensuring that affordable housing projects also generate long-term economic growth.
Today, with more than $310 million raised and over a thousand units in development across several U.S. states, Dr. Merritt continues to redefine affordable housing by turning it into a pathway for empowerment, equity, and generational wealth.
