If you were fired shortly after reporting something, taking protected leave, or hitting a life milestone — that’s not a coincidence. That’s a pattern California law recognizes.

Your employer cannot ignore your request for a reasonable accommodation.

Under California law, when you ask for help — a schedule change, a modified duty, time off for a medical condition — your employer is legally required to sit down with you and have a real conversation about it.

That's called the interactive process. And skipping it? That's illegal.

They don't get to just say "no." They have to engage. They have to explore options. If they refused — or pretended your request never happened — you may have a claim.
