Romer v. Evans (1996) was the first Supreme Court case to affirm the constitutional rights of gay people under the Equal Protection Clause

Summary of the Decision:
🔹 The Court struck down Amendment 2, which had been passed by Colorado voters.
🔹 Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the 6–3 majority, stated that the law singled out homosexual and bisexual persons, denying them legal protections available to others.
🔹 The Court ruled the amendment had no legitimate government purpose and was based solely on animus toward a specific group

Breaking down ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement)

ICE is part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). ICE is primarily focused on immigration enforcement and customs violations, both inside the U.S. and at borders.

The world is watching as the show down in Los Angeles continues between the Trump Adminstration and U.S. Citizens who are exercising their right to protest. The protests are in response ICE's increased presence in Los Angeles, where they are detaining legal citizens without cause and unfairly deporting immigrants.

Let's Break It Down:
♦️ Police arrested protesters after an overnight curfew came into effect for a part of downtown Los Angeles. More than 200 people were taken into custody yesterday for failure to disperse, according to the LAPD.

♦️About 700 Marines have been activated to help protect federal personnel and property. They are outside LA and still undergoing training, according to officials.

♦️Nationwide spread: Protests similar to those in LA are popping up in other major US cities. More demonstrations are planned this week and weekend.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka is suing interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba, alleging she violated his fourth amendment constitutional right and defamed him when he was arrested outside a U.S. federal immigration detention center last month.

The judge overseeing the case has suggested that Baraka’s arrest “was a worrisome misstep” by the U.S Attorney’s office. Do you agree with this judge?

“Operation At Large,” a nationwide, ICE-led plan already underway to ramp up arrests of unauthorized immigrants.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller threatened to fire senior Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in May if they did not begin detaining 3,000 migrants a day, according to two sources who spoke to attendees.

Weeks later, ICE is launching the Trump administration’s largest immigration crackdown.

The Trump administration isn’t celebrating Pride Month, but rather walking back initiatives to recognize LGBTQ+ communities. It’s a part of a larger repeal of DEI efforts by the administration.

🔴 White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday that the White House has “no plans” to make a proclamation for the month of June in regards to Pride Month.

🔴 The Department of Education on Tuesday announced that it recognizes June as Title IX Month, “commemorating women and celebrating their struggle for, and achievement of, equal educational opportunity.”

🔴 The FBI on Monday requested tips from the public on hospitals, clinics or practitioners performing gender-affirming surgeries to youth.

🔴 Trump threatened to cut funding to California if it continues to allow transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports.

🚓 She survived a car crash—then police dragged, cuffed, and tased her.

🔸 Tyler McClain hydroplaned off an Arkansas highway in 2020. She was bruised and disoriented, but alive. Instead of getting help, deputies pulled her from her car, pinned her to the ground, and tased her while she screamed for help.

🔸 I'm DeWitt M. Lacy, the civil rights attorney representing McClain in a federal lawsuit for excessive force and false arrest.

The charges against her? All dropped.
The trauma? Still real.

🔸 If you believe survivors deserve dignity, not brutality, share this story. Tyler’s not alone. And we're not backing down.
