Many plaintiffs will face higher taxes on lawsuit settlements under the recently passed tax reform law. Some will be taxed on their gross recoveries, with no deduction for attorney fees even if their lawyer takes 40% off the top. In a $100,000 case, that means paying tax on $100,000, even if $40,000 goes to the lawyer.

New tax laws make many legal settlements 100% taxable--even the portion paid to contingent fee lawyers that now can no longer be deducted.

Eight years ago today, I took a leap of faith and started Megerdomian Law Offices. I was filled with angst but never once doubted my work ethic. Today, I'm happy to announce the opening of my second office in Beverly Hills, located at 468 N. Camden! Thank you to all those who continue to support this little engine that could. I especially want to thank my husband, without whom I could not be a mother and have a full-time career.
