When To Sue Your Landlord: CO or Carbon monoxide poisoning

***By law, your landlords are obligated to maintain a certain habitability standard for your unit and comply with the state and local safety codes
One of the unsafe living conditions you should be wary of is the presence of leakage of carbon monoxide. It is perhaps the most dangerous gas that can enter one’s home because it is colorless, odorless, and otherwise imperceptible without a carbon monoxide detector. All tenants should have a carbon monoxide detector in their units. When inhaled, it replaces the oxygen in your blood that all cells in your body need to function and poses serious health risks.

In California, landlords are required to install and maintain a carbon monoxide detector in all single-family units. If you suspect that the detector malfunctions, make your landlord aware promptly.

If you're coming across any issues with CO detectors, message us or contact us at www.tenantslawfirm.com for more assistance.

When To Sue Your Landlord: Asbestos

***By law, your landlords are obligated to maintain a certain habitability standard for your unit and comply with the state and local safety codes.

One of the unsafe living conditions for which you should keep your landlord accountable is the presence of Asbestos in your living space. Breathing asbestos fibers increases your risk of severe health consequences. Asbestos exposure is linked to a greater chance of lung or digestive system cancer. Check out this post to learn more about asbestos poisoning and how to recognize it.

If your landlord is made aware of the situation but continues to neglect your predicament, you should know that this is a form of landlord harassment.

There are several courses of action that you can take to force your landlord to make the necessary repairs.
1. A written request
2. Repairing it yourself and having the cost deducted from your rent.
3. Getting in contact with your rent board
4. Filing a lawsuit

Though you should not be deterred from exercising your rights as tenants, some of these options are complicated, parse, and might be a long process. It is best to speak with a tenant lawyer
to plan the best options for you.

When To Sue Your Landlord: Bed Bugs

**By law, your landlords are obligated to maintain a certain habitability standard for your unit and comply with the state and local safety codes.**

If your living condition is infested with bed bugs, your landlord is responsible for taking the required action to resolve this issue. Bed bugs are a public health pest. Although they have not been shown to transmit disease, they cause various adverse physical health, mental health, and economic consequences - especially allergic reactions to their bites, which can be severe, as well as the high costs involved in getting rid of a bed bug infestation. Check out this post to learn more about what bed bugs are and how to recognize them.

Before any legal action, the first step is to make your landlord aware of the situation. Whether intentional or not, if they continue to ignore your complaint, here are the following options for you to take:

When To Sue Your Landlord: Molds

***By law, your landlords are obligated to maintain a certain habitability standard for your unit and comply with the state and local safety codes.

One of the unsafe living conditions that you should keep your landlord accountable for is the presence of mold, or mildew, in your living space. Whether or not you’re allergic to mold, mold exposure could irritate your eyes, skin, nose, throat, and lungs.

If your landlord is made aware of the situation but continues to neglect your predicament, you should know that this is a form of landlord harassment.

There are several courses of action that you can take to force your landlord to make the necessary repairs:
