💛 This community event is about coming together—housed and unhoused neighbors alike—to build connection, shift the narrative, and imagine solutions rooted in care, not displacement.

🎨 Art & conversation

Today, the City of Berkeley posted notices at Ohlone Park, scheduling the camp for closure starting May 28. This gathering is being organized by the Berkeley Homeless Union ahead of the closure and the city’s public meeting on May 22, where officials will discuss the plans for Ohlone Park.

Too often, City meetings become spaces of frustration and blame—leaving little room for meaningful dialogue or for the voices of unhoused community members to be heard. We want to change that by creating a space rooted in respect and connection.

Everyone is welcome. Let’s make space for understanding, solidarity and joy!

🚨 The countdown is on.

In just 10 days—on April 29—a judge will decide the fate of our community at 8th & Harrison streets, one of the largest encampments in Berkeley. This week, the City is expected to come inspect the camp again. What they see will impact that decision.

That’s why this weekend, we’re calling on our community once again to help us prepare.

🧹 Join us for a cleanup day to get the space looking its best!

🎨 We’ll also be finishing the street mural we started last time—we ran out of paint, but not determination.

💛 We are so grateful for everyone who’s shown up for us. Because of your support, the conditions at our camp have drastically improved for everyone. This is what solidarity looks like!💪🏽

AND Sunday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Let’s finish what we started—together! ❤️

🎨Community Cleanup + Mural Painting THIS WEEKEND!

We’re at a turning point. Berkeley wants to label our home at 8th & Harrison a “no camping zone”— a move that would scatter dozens of residents into the streets with nowhere to go.

We fought back and were granted a Temporary Restraining Order to stop the sweep. But that protection could end at our next hearing on April 29.

Before this date, the City will come inspect the camp again. How it looks will matter. But more importantly, how we show up right now for this community could decide whether these vulnerable residents stay—or get displaced.

🧹 That’s why we’re organizing another community cleanup and mural painting day! We’re not just cleaning—we’re building power and creating beauty in the place we call home.

🌱 Community Cleanup This Weekend – Let’s Keep the Momentum Going! 🌱

Our last cleanup was a beautiful act of care and resistance — we cleared waste, painted a colorful mural, and reminded each other that this is our community. We take pride in it.

Now, we’re doing it again! 💪🏽 Keeping our space clean is more than just picking up trash — it’s about protecting our neighbors, uplifting our spirits and showing that we also belong in this city.

Every time we come together, we prove that real solutions come from the community — not from displacement, but from love, solidarity and action.
✨ Join us for another day of cleanup and community! 🫶🏽

đź“… When: Saturday, March 22 & Sunday, March 23
📍 Where: 8th & Harrison Streets, Berkeley

đź’›We could use the most help on Saturday! Luckily, this cleanup will be a light lift, so bring a friend and come be part of the movement.

Let’s show up for each other, for our neighbors, and for the future we’re building — one cleanup at a time. 🧹✨

🚨 NEWS UPDATE: We Stood Together & Got Relief from the Courts—Let’s Keep Going!

Against all odds, our 8th & Harrison curbside community has secured a Temporary Restraining Order! The court recognized the city of Berkeley’s failure to provide ADA accommodations and acknowledged that our collective cleanup efforts helped mitigate the so-called "hazards" the city used to justify the sweep.

🔥 This proves what we already knew — community action works! But the fight isn’t over. Our next court hearing is on March 4, and we need to keep building momentum to protect our neighbors from displacement.

💪🏽 HOW YOU CAN TAKE ACTION:

🧹 Community Cleanup (Sat & Sun) – Help disabled camp residents keep the area clean and show that we care for our home. (Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday! 🙏🏽)

🎨 Street Mural & Potluck (Sunday) – Celebrate our strength, reclaim our space, and send a powerful message: We belong!

This isn’t just about one encampment — it’s about defending our right to exist and demanding real solutions. When we come together, we show that another way is possible—one where we uplift, protect, and fight for one another.

💛 Let’s show the city what true community looks like. Join us this Sunday!✊🏽

🚨 CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS 🚨
Last time, our collective efforts removed over 3,246 lbs of waste and filled a huge dumpster three times! That cleanup not only improved conditions—it lifted spirits and reminded us that together, we can create real change in our community.

💛 This isn’t just a street. It’s our home. 💛

Despite years of efforts by camp residents to work with the City on solutions, we still face the threat of displacement. Following our appeal hearing to stop the sweep, the hearing officer ruled that if hazardous conditions still exist by February 10, the City has the legal authority to take action and remove or correct these hazards.

The abatement order remains in effect, meaning the City can displace camp residents and remove personal property, tents and tow vehicle homes if they decide “hazards” are present by the deadline.

🌱 Help Us Restore Our Community! 🌱

⛺ We urgently need donations of tents and tarps to help restore shelter for camp residents. A 6 to 8-person tent is preferred, as many residents have disabilities and need additional space. If you’re able to contribute, please bring donations to the cleanup site or contact us through email to arrange a drop-off. Reach us at: [email protected]

With heavy rain coming, we need your help on the dry days ahead to finish what we started. Let’s show once again what’s possible when a community comes together!

📅 Volunteer Cleanup Days: Wednesday, Feb. 5 to Sunday, Feb. 9 from 12 PM – 4 PM

📍 Location: 8th and Harrison Streets, Berkeley (1201 Eighth Street, Berkeley)

Join us! Let’s take care of each other. 💪🏽💙

🌟 URGENT: Support Needed for the Unhoused Community at 8th and Harrison! 🌟

The City of Berkeley plans to clear one of the largest remaining encampments in West Berkeley by February 10, leaving dozens of residents without shelter or alternatives. This action is happening despite the city having no available shelter beds and a rapidly closing non-congregate shelter at the end of winter. Many camp residents, including those with disabilities, are already waiting for accessible placements—but time is running out.

Sweeps like these are not just harmful; they are deadly. Studies show forced displacements increase risks of overdose deaths, hospitalizations, and loss of vital property and community connections.

We need your help to stop this life-threatening sweep. Whether it’s volunteering, sharing this message, or urging city leaders to prioritize solutions over displacement, every effort counts.

📢 Take Action:

đź’Ś Email us to join our volunteer efforts and newsletter: [email protected]

📣 Contact City Manager Paul Buddenhagen, Mayor Adena Ishii, and Councilwoman Rashi Keserwani to demand viable, humane alternatives.

Together, we can protect our unhoused neighbors and fight for a future where everyone has a safe place to call home! ❤️✊🏽
