We’re so grateful to be working with another wonderful referral from past clients. One of the greatest compliments we can receive is when people we’ve helped trust us enough to send their friends and family our way.

M & C were searching for something very specific: a home with a deep connection to nature. They wanted a place where they could step outside, hear water nearby, watch the seasons change, and feel a sense of retreat while still living in Berkeley.

When they discovered this home in North Berkeley’s Thousand Oaks neighborhood, it immediately stood out.

One of its most remarkable features is Codornices Creek running through the property, creating a rare connection to the natural landscape that is difficult to find in the Bay Area. The sound of the creek, mature trees, and surrounding greenery make the home feel like a hidden sanctuary tucked into the heart of North Berkeley.

For M & C, who love spending time outdoors, this home supports the lifestyle they hoped to create: morning coffee under the trees, afternoons in the garden, evenings listening to the creek, and a slower, more grounded way of living.

Helping clients find homes that align with how they want to live is at the heart of what we do. Real estate is never just about square footage or bedrooms. It’s about finding the place where life feels most like your own.

A reminder that real estate is really about people.

Last year, we had the pleasure of helping our friend Danny Lavery find a home. Tonight, we had the joy of hearing him read from his newest book, Meeting New People, at Local Economy in Rockridge.

Danny is the bestselling author of Meeting New People, Women’s Hotel, Something That May Shock and Discredit You, and Texts From Jane Eyre. His writing is thoughtful, funny, deeply human, and always a pleasure to read. It has been a privilege to know him not only as a client, but as a friend.

One of the things we love most about this work is helping people create homes and lives together. It was an honor to help Danny, Lily, Grace, and Rocco find the home they now share as a family.

The evening itself was perfect. Warm, joyful, full of laughter, and exactly the right length. Danny is SO funny. I found myself laughing throughout the reading and leaving even more excited to dive into the book.

Meeting New People explores friendship, connection, and the complicated terrain of female friendship breakups. I can’t wait to read it.

The event took place at Local Economy, the incredible neighborhood gathering space created by journalist, author, and KQED Forum host Alexis Madrigal and writer Sarah Rich. More than a bookstore, it is a place where ideas, conversation, and community come together in the heart of Rockridge.

One of the greatest gifts of this work is that the relationships do not end at the close of escrow. We get to continue celebrating milestones, supporting local businesses, and sharing in the lives of people we genuinely care about.

Some clients become friends.

Over the past few months, we had the privilege of helping Olga through two important chapters.

First, we helped her purchase a home in Berkeley's Claremont neighborhood. One of her biggest priorities was finding a place where her mother could live comfortably with her and age in place while remaining close to family.

Then, we had the opportunity to help her sell her beautiful home in Berkeley's Elmwood neighborhood.

What made working with Olga so special was how thoughtful she was throughout the process. Every decision was guided by what would create the best life for the people she loves.

Real estate is often described as buying and selling houses, but moments like these remind us that it is really about people, family, and the lives being built inside those homes.

We feel incredibly grateful that Olga trusted us to guide her through both sides of this transition. From finding the right home for her next chapter to successfully selling the one she was leaving behind, it has been a joy to be part of the journey.

Some sales are about the numbers. Some are about the people. This one is about both.

A few years ago, we met these wonderful clients at an open house. Over time, we had the opportunity to get to know them, learn about their goals, and eventually help them prepare for an exciting new chapter.

Their home had been lovingly cared for and thoughtfully updated over the years. It was filled with memories, hard work, and the kind of care that only comes from people who truly love where they live.

When it came time to sell, our goal was simple: help them move into their next phase of life knowing they had maximized the value of everything they had built.

Together, we made a handful of strategic improvements, created a thoughtful marketing plan, generated strong buyer competition, and ultimately achieved a result beyond their original dream number.

The home sold in just 5 days with multiple offers, achieving a record price per square foot among the comparable sales and closing at $1,280,000 — 43% over the asking price.

But what makes us happiest isn't the statistic. It's knowing that our clients are moving forward with more options, more freedom, and more resources for whatever comes next.

One of the greatest privileges of this work is being invited into such important transitions in people's lives. We are incredibly grateful for the trust they placed in us and so excited for all that lies ahead for them.

Congratulations to two truly wonderful people. We can't wait to see what this next chapter brings.

Did you know that planting certain flowers in your vegetable garden could help growth?

There's no rule that says vegetables and flowers have to be grown separately. Add these blooms to your vegetable garden to boost your yield.

Last night Ameliese and I attended the Creative Growth Fashion Show in Berkeley, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it.

As someone who spent my life working as an artist before becoming a real estate agent, creativity and the people behind it have a special place in my heart.

Creativity has always been part of my life. My parents met in art school, and both were artists. My mother continued creating throughout her entire life. My brother is an artist, and my grandmother was as well.

What made the evening at creative growth so extraordinary wasn’t just the fashion. It was the joy.
Watching the artists and fashion designers walk the runway with such confidence, pride, and excitement was incredibly moving. You could feel how much it meant to have their work celebrated, appreciated, and shared with the community.

The entire evening felt magical.

One of the things I love most about living and working in the Bay Area, Berkeley and the East Bay is being surrounded by organizations like that champion creativity, inclusion, and the belief that every person has something valuable to contribute.

At The Art of Home, we often talk about the emotional connection people have to spaces. Art does this. It helps us see the world differently. It helps us feel. It creates connection.

Thank you to everyone who made this beautiful event possible. Ameliese and I left inspired, grateful, and reminded that creativity has the power to transform lives.

Have you ever attended a Creative Growth event?

One of the greatest privileges of what we do is getting to be part of the stories behind remarkable homes.

This weekend, Terry and I were honored to sponsor an architectural home tour in Berkeley’s Claremont neighborhood near Elmwood and to gift tickets to many of our clients, friends, and community members who share our love of architecture, design, and beautiful homes.

The tour featured five extraordinary residences, each with its own unique character, history, and design perspective. But for us, one home held special meaning.

Years ago, we began searching with clients who had a very specific vision for what they wanted. We looked at countless homes together, remaining patient and waiting for the one that felt right. Not just a house that checked boxes, but a home that truly resonated with who they were.

Eventually, we found it.

Seeing their home featured on the tour and walking through it again was incredibly special. We were reminded that the best homes are not always the ones with the most square footage or the newest finishes. They are the homes that deeply reflect the people who live in them.

As artists, designers, and real estate advisors, Terry and I have always been fascinated by the relationship between architecture and human experience. How light moves through a space. How a home connects to its landscape. How thoughtful design can create beauty, comfort, and a sense of belonging.

We believe great architecture should be celebrated and shared, which is why sponsoring this tour and gifting tickets to members of our community felt so meaningful.

Thank you to the homeowners who opened their doors and to everyone who joined us in celebrating some of Berkeley’s most inspiring homes.

Which home would you have wanted to see?

The long, peaceful walk from the front gate to the home sets the tone for what makes 248 The Uplands so special. Surrounded by nature and with a creek running through the property, this is a home that feels like a private retreat.
Inside, buyers will love the abundant natural light, open floor plan, and seamless indoor-outdoor flow that connects beautifully to the surrounding landscape. Access to the main house includes a bridge crossing and a narrow stairway, making the setting especially well suited for those who appreciate a more natural, hillside environment.
