The past couple of months, I starting having friends and family tell me they called my cell phone but someone who was not me answered. It escalated the past few days so I called Verizon.. After spending an hour on the phone with them, they determined my phone number had been compromised, or spoofed. Now that nearly everything has gone to two-factor authentication, this meant that if a hacker somehow obtained a password of mine, they could have the two-factor authentication text sent to them rather than me and then access all of my accounts, financial, social media, literally everything. The only fix was to obtain a new phone number, get rid of the cell number I've had since the 80s and then go into every single account that uses my cell number and change them. Although I've lost track of the number of hours I've spent on this debacle, I'm not risking some scammer raiding my accounts. If you start experiencing this type of problem don't wait to contact your carrier.
