Such a tragic situation.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was on his way to work Tuesday morning, according to his family, when ICE tried to pull him over during a targeted enforcement operation.

The agency says he rammed a law enforcement vehicle and tried to run agents over, which resulted in an agent firing his gun in self-defense. Salgado Araujo passed away at the hospital.

He'd been in the U.S. for nearly 35 years, according to his family, and was working through the legal process to get a work permit.

His son will speak publicly this morning alongside elected and civil rights leaders, who are demanding a transparent, independent investigation.
