Myth #1: If I get approved for Medicaid, the nursing home will take my home.
You can qualify for Medicaid and still own your home. The value of your home is not considered an asset when applying for Medicaid. Without proper planning, Medicaid can be reimbursed for the cost of your care upon your passing. However, with proper planning the staff of Livens & Reed can transfer the home directly to the person(s) of your choosing upon your passing avoiding probate and Medicaid Estate Recovery Program.
Before modifying your asset alignment, transferring or selling property, beginning to “spend down”, or applying for Medicaid, it is important to consult with an experienced Medicaid elder law attorney. Livens & Reed offers an initial consultation at no cost.
