AFTER THE STORM: Don't throw anything away just yet.

Before cleanup gets too far along, document EVERYTHING.

Take more pictures and videos than you think you need...roof damage, fences, ceilings, flooring, furniture, appliances, spoiled food and anything else affected.

If water entered your home, document where it came in and how far it traveled.

Keep damaged items when reasonably possible until your insurance company has had an opportunity to inspect them, and save every receipt for emergency repairs, tarps, hotels and other storm-related expenses.

Most importantly, remember that the insurance adjuster works for the insurance company. You are allowed to ask questions, request explanations and make sure your claim is being fully evaluated.

We have been through storms before…but what we saw this time was different.

As our local weather extraordinaire, Greg Bostwick, explained, it was “a storm which I will never forget due to its amazing intensification while still over land.”

When something that unusual happens, there is no perfect playbook.

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of our first responders, law enforcement, firefighters, emergency crews, linemen, and especially the men and women at Entergy who have been working around the clock to get our communities safely back on the grid as quickly as possible.

We know how frustrating it is to be without power, especially in the Southeast Texas heat. But there are a whole lot of people out there working long, difficult hours away from their own families to get ours back to normal.

⭐️As a thank you for always showing up for Southeast Texas when we need you most, if you’re one of those first responders, personally comment in the Byrd Ramsey post below and we will randomly draw on Labor Day to give 10 people a $25 gift card for Courville's, which is the perfect amount to put towards a freezer meal, a no-cook meal, breakfast and coffee, or some dips!⭐️

I don’t know about y’all, but Edouardo caught us off guard!

Here are a few helpful reminders.

**Stay safe. Property can be repaired and replaced. People cannot.**

📸 DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take plenty of photos and videos of the damage—inside and outside—before cleanup or repairs begin.

🏠 PREVENT FURTHER DAMAGE. Make reasonable temporary repairs to protect your property, such as tarping a damaged roof or covering broken windows.

🧾 SAVE EVERY RECEIPT. Keep receipts for temporary repairs, supplies, hotels, meals, generators and other storm-related expenses.

📋 MAKE AN INVENTORY. Photograph damaged personal property and make a list before throwing anything away. When possible, keep damaged items until your insurance company has had an opportunity to inspect them.

📞 REPORT YOUR CLAIM. Notify your insurance company promptly in writing and keep a record of your claim number and every conversation you have with the insurance company or adjuster.

📁 KEEP A FILE. Save estimates, emails, letters, photographs, receipts and notes from phone calls in one place.

🔨 BE CAREFUL WITH CONTRACTORS. Get estimates in writing, check references and credentials, and understand anything you sign before work begins!! I can’t stress this one enough. DO YOUR RESEARCH!

⚠️ DON’T ASSUME THE FIRST INSURANCE ESTIMATE IS THE FINAL ANSWER. If you believe damage was missed or your claim was underpaid or improperly denied, you have the right to ask questions.

For decades, we have handled thousands of insurance claims combined. We are here to answer your questions and help you understand the insurance claim process.

Insurance companies don't advertise their deadlines they are required to follow after you file a claim. They just deny claims filed after them.

If your home or property has been damaged and your claim was denied, call us to make sure your insurance company is following all the rules they are required to follow!

Most people can tell you their car payment down to the dollar. Fewer can tell you what their insurance actually covers.

Liability limits. Underinsured motorist coverage. PIP. MedPay. Rental car coverage. These aren't just line items, they're what stands between you and a potential stack of bills if you’re in an accident.

There are many moments in life when you might need a lawyer, even if you don’t realize it at the time. From signing a contract to negotiating the buying or sale of a business, legal advice on the front end can save you from costly mistakes later. For instance, if you’re entering a partnership or starting a new business venture, a lawyer can help ensure the terms are fair and your interests are protected. The same goes for any contract you sign; whether it’s for a job, a service, or a purchase, a lawyer can make sure you’re not agreeing to something that puts you at risk.

Let’s be honest, dealing with the aftermath of a storm is overwhelming enough without having to fight your insurance company, too. So when should you get a lawyer involved? Here are a few signs:

1. Your claim is denied or delayed
If you’ve done everything right - filed on time, submitted documentation, and followed up, and you’re still getting the runaround, it might be time to bring in some help.

2. The payment they offer doesn’t come close to covering the damage
It’s not uncommon for insurance companies to lowball that first offer. You don’t have to accept it. If something feels off, trust your gut and get a second opinion.

3. They’re blaming you or claiming the damage isn’t storm-related
We see this all the time. Companies trying to shift the blame to avoid paying. A lawyer can help push back and make sure they’re held accountable.

Bottom line: if the process is starting to feel unfair, confusing, or just flat-out stressful, reach out. You don’t have to handle it alone, and we’re here to make sure you’re treated fairly and compensated fully.

If you’ve got questions about a claim or just want to know if something seems right, give us a call. No pressure, just honest advice.

📞 Our office phones are currently down.

Unfortunately, our phone system has reached the end of its life (with no warning!), and we're in the process of replacing it with a new system. It will likely take a few days to get everything ordered, installed, and up and running.

In the meantime, if you need assistance, please email [email protected].

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we get our new phone system in place.

Community isn't just where we live...it's how we take care of one another and support the organizations that mean so much to us, our friends, and our families. ❤️

We're proud to support the Loula Foundation at its 2026 Gala, honoring our friends, the Courville's family!

The Loula Foundation is a family-centered non-profit that provides person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented support.

The Courville family has given SO much back to Southeast Texas over the years. Now it's our community's opportunity to surround them with the same love and support they've shown so many others while they are being honored at this event.

See you there! :)

Do you know what your homeowner’s insurance actually covers during a hurricane? Now’s the time to review your policy, not after the storm hits!

Here’s a starting point of what to look for: deductibles for named storms, limits for damages, types of coverages (actual cash value vs. replacement cash value), wind-driven rain coverage, if there are any limitations for roof coverage.
