📖 Here’s a quick breakdown of one term you may come across when looking at property taxes!
❓What is a millage rate?
💬 A millage rate is the tax rate your local government uses to calculate how much you’ll pay in property taxes. The higher the millage rate, the higher your property taxes may be.
💭 Easy way to remember
🗂️ Millage rate = the tax rate
💲Property taxes = the amount you actually pay
🎉 Fun fact: In Beaufort County, if a home is your primary residence and qualifies for the 4% legal residence tax rate, you don’t pay the school operating portion of your property taxes. Second homes, rental properties, and vacant land don’t qualify for that exemption, so they do pay the school operating taxes.
