Due to significant snowfall with melting and refreezing, Cummings & Kennedy Law Firm remains closed through Friday, January 24th, as we monitor conditions and prioritize the safety of our team and clients. We expect to resume normal hours of operation on Monday, January 27th.

Carteret County Government and Courts will remain closed on Thursday, January 23rd. Our office will remain closed on this date as well, consistent with the Court's schedule.

We will be closing early at 2:00 p.m. today to attend the Investiture of Austus D. Willis IV as our next Superior Court Judge for Judicial District 4. Governor Cooper appointed Mr. Willis to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Joshua W. Willey.

We will resume regular operations at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Last week was bittersweet, as we bid farewell to our beloved Coletta Briley. Coletta came to us as Coletta Lindow back in October of 2017. Sweet, energetic, ambitious, intelligent, and mature well beyond her 21 years, she quickly distinguished herself as a professional while endearing herself to her team, our clients, and courthouse personnel. She quickly transitioned from receptionist to paralegal, from paralegal to lead paralegal, and ultimately became the office manager for the better part of her six years with us.

During that time, we saw her earn her AA degree in Paralegal Studies, her Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, and her Paralegal Certification with the North Carolina State Bar. She also became Mrs. Coletta Briley within the last year.

Coletta has accepted a remote position in a different field of legal practice, and we are truly exited for her. We wish her well on the next phase of her journey, and we are forever grateful for her contributions to our firm and our clients, as well as the care she took to ensure a smooth transition for everyone. We are excited for what lies ahead for all involved, and we look forward to introducing some new, yet familiar faces in the near future!
